Stig Asmussen, director of both 2019's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and this year's Jedi: Survivor, is leaving Respawn Entertainment for parts unknown. Asmussen had previously stated he envisioned a trilogy for protagonist Cal Kestis, but it seems that particular story will need to be helmed by another.
Word comes to us by way of Bloomberg, with an EA spokesperson providing further details, stating: «After careful thought and consideration, Stig Asmussen has decided to leave Respawn to pursue other adventures, and we wish him the best of luck. Veteran Respawn leaders will be stepping up to guide the team as they continue their work on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.»
While this move does come as a surprise, at least Asmussen leaves on a high note. Still suffering from some performance issues, Jedi: Survivor remains a great game, which is never a given, especially considering it carries the Star Wars prefix. It remains to be seen where Asmussen lands, but we'll look forward to what comes next.

Khayl Adam is the second best video game journalist Australia has ever produced, and his ambitions of world domination have (thus far) been curbed by the twin siren songs of strategy games and CRPGs. He has always felt an affinity for the noble dachshund, the best kind of dog.
if he's got any talent or morals, I'm not surprised
Stig has a pretty strong track record at this point so I'm certainly interested to see where he ends up. I wonder who is going to direct the 3rd Jedi game whenever Respawn gets around to it.
The trend of EA poisoning all it touches continues.
Playing Survivor now. Still a bit janky with some of the platforming and hit boxes (those damn big fauna grab attacks) but overall really good. The story is much better told than the New Disney live action nonsense. I'm sure wherever he goes next will only benefit from his leadership
I've liked Stig's direct design ethos and prioritising visceral fun alongside a great tale. Will be interesting to see what he does next. Wishing him well
“ While this move does come as a surprise, at least Asmussen leaves on a high note. Still suffering from some performance issues”
Performance issues that was his fault. EA gave Respawn the option to delay the game again. And it was his decision to turn that down and release the game as is… But of course everyone is going blame EA, and not him for giving us the worse performing game of the year. Hopefully, who ever replaces him doesn’t do the same thing and we can

Actor Cameron Monaghan casually confirmed that a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is in development. During the Ocala Comic Con event, the voice and motion capture artist behind the protagonist Cal Kestis said, “We're working on the third. We're in the process of doing it right now.” The news comes as a surprise, considering the series director Stig Asmussen, who rebuilt and instilled faith in single-player Star Wars games, recently left EA/ Respawn Entertainment. However, he always expressed interest in furthering and concluding Cal's arc through a trilogy, with discussions of a sequel dating back even before 2019's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was out.
Given how big 2023 has been for gaming on numerous levels, it can be easy to forget that certain titles have been out for several months and were really incredible when they arrived. One such title was Star Wars Jedi Survivor. The sequel to Respawn Entertainment’s epic first entry into the galaxy far, far away, was highly anticipated by fans, and many were curious how the development team would handle the continued journey of Kal Kestis. Thankfully, outside of some optimization issues, the game was great, and many consider it one of the many contenders for Game of the Year. But now the question is, what’s next?
Given the widespread critical and commercial success that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and its sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor have enjoyed, it seems safe to assume that there will be a third game in the series, and though one hasn’t been officially announced yet, actor Cameron Monaghan, who plays Star Wars Jedi protagonist Cal Kestis, has let slip that work on the series’ next instalment is underway.
