Star Trek: Infinite warps to release on 12th October

Speaking with Collider, writer Lindsey Anderson Beer finally clarified the current status of the long-in-development fourth installment to the J.J. Abrams-produced Star Trek film franchise. Despite its suffering from delays, Beer confirmed that the highly-anticipated project is still moving forward at Paramount Pictures.

After being exclusive to the Epic Games Store since its release in 2020, Vicarious Visions’ Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 +2 is finally coming to Steam. It releases on October 3rd with Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions available.

HoYoverse will release itsspace fantasy RPG, Honkai: Star Rail , on PlayStation 5 on October 11th. The announcement was made at the latest State of Play showcase and came with a new trailer, new feature previews, and more on what the cross-platform PlayStation 5 release means.

There’s an old joke about 4X games that goes something like this: after you spend several hours on YouTube watching tutorials, you get to fumble your way through a playthrough with a vague idea of what you’re doing before you inevitably make some fatal mistake you don’t recognize until much, much later. Then you restart and do a little better. Star Trek: Infinite isn’t interested in re-inventing the galactic wheel - this is a 4X game’s 4X game - but it does do a good job of bringing Trek into the space that publisher Paradox Interactive has boldly charted over the years.

Star Trek does not have a long history of being funny, but it has its moments. The original series’ “The Trouble with Tribbles” saw Gene Roddenberry’s social commentary take a light-hearted swerve, and future generations were more than happy to dip back in (see: DS9’s “Trials and Tribble-ations.”) Thanks to the godly powers of Q, The Next Generation crew found a reason to dress up in Robin Hood attire for the delightful romp “Qpid.” Lower Decks was born from the obvious potential of Trek stories being able to poke fun at themselves while sprinkling in the catnip of Easter eggs.

Star Trek Online’s latest new update, Incursion, is now live on PC. The new update finds some different Borg forces threatening Starbase One in a brand new story episode. Actor Garret Wang becomes the latest Star Trek franchise actor to reprise their role, this time as Captain Harry Kim.

Paradox have announced that Star Trek: Infinite is coming out on October 12th. Infinite’s previous trailers already made it look like a "Stellaris in a different version of space" affair - which is by no means an unfavourable comparison - and the latest footage shows off more grand strategy shenanigans. Planet management. Lotsa menus. Expanding factions, sometimes peacefully if you prefer a clear conscience.
