It's been a little while since the release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, so attention has naturally turned to the possibility of DLC. We know that the original Marvel's Spider-Man included a few story expansions, introducing the likes of Black Cat and fleshing out characters like Tombstone and Wraith, so the likelihood of getting DLC for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is high.
In fact, it's almost guaranteed, as new details about potential DLC were revealed due to the big Insomniac leak that occurred late last year. Various mission types and story scenes marked as "Beetle" were revealed back in January, confirming that Insomniac plans on introducing the relatively obscure villain The Beetle to Marvel's Spider-Man 2 as DLC, something which has now been backed up even further by a new leak that occurred today.
First shared by Reddit user KekanKok on the GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit, art for The Beetle has now leaked, giving us our first potential look at what the character will look like in the game. It's worth noting that this is just concept art, just like the recent Green Goblin leak, which means that the character's design could have easily changed over the course of development, though it does give us a general idea at the very least.
There have been many iterations of The Beetle throughout the Marvel comics, from which Marvel's Spider-Man 2 takes a lot of inspiration, so Insomniac had a lot of potential storylines to play around with. However, it seems as though the developer is set on having Janet Lincoln take on the role of The Beetle, a character who Spider-Man fans will probably recognize as the daughter of fellow villain Tombstone.
We know this as the name "Janet" also appeared in the leak back in January, and this concept art seems to be depicting a woman. The only other woman to have appeared as The Beetle is Leila Davis, the wife of a very obscure Marvel villain called The Ringer. Considering we have no idea if The Ringer even exists in Insomniac's version of Spider-Man, we can safely assume Miles (and maybe Peter?) will be going up against Janet in the near future.
It will also be a great opportunity for Insomniac to flesh out Tombstone's character a bit more, as those who have played Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will know that he's now attempting to live a normal life. We could even see Miles team up with Tombstone to stop his daughter going down the wrong path, though that is merely speculation on my part. When we actually get a Beetle announcement, it's anyone's best guess at the moment.
