is littered with mysteries for players to uncover, but one has stumped fans since the game launched into early access in 2023: the Artifact. The puzzle sphere has long confused survivors, especially those who managed to track down its various pieces and create the final item only to discover that its use was yet another enigma. Fortunately, after the 1.0 patch, dedicated fans have finally figured out what it does.
The YouTube page Sons Of The Forest Channel recently shared a video highlighting the various uses of The Artifact, and it may just be one of the most essential items in . The Artifact can do three things: instantly teleport from anywhere on the map back to base, coat items in gold, and both attract and repel enemies.
To teleport, players must first construct a teleporter, a structure that consists of eight skulls, 50 bones, and 33 rocks. Once built, the Artifact can be used to «activate» the device. Any subsequent uses of the item will see the player instantly warp back to the designated zone, making exploring the island significantly easier.
When it comes to turning things into gold, the Artifact can be «loaded» with Solafite and used when targeting any item. Beyond looking glitzy, this metallic coat also grants extra durability, meaning enemies will need to try harder to break down a player's base. Lastly, with the construction of the Attract and Repel Shrines, both of which can be found as blueprints in the world, the Artifact can activate the aforementioned buildings. The former draws enemies to it while the latter instills fear in hostile NPCs, prompting them to stay away.
Ever since hit early access, the Artifact has proven to be one of the game's most resilient mysteries. Players had good reason to investigate the strange object given that the original game, simply titled , also has an orb-like Artifact. Requiring plenty of work to discover, it was widely regarded as one of the best items in-game due to its ability to both provoke and pacify enemies.
's recent 1.0 update did more than provide an answer to the mystery of the Artifact. The official release brought with it a wealth of content, including new cutscenes, a choice-based alternate ending, additional voice acting, an entire creative mode, new story items, another cave system, and plenty of smaller extras. All in all, there are plenty of reasons for players to check out if they haven't yet.
