It’s that rare part of the year for avid European Formula 1 fans where we’re faced with the decision of setting alarm clocks and getting up at awful time of the morning to watch the Australian Grand Prix. Given the absolute dominance of the sport that we’ve seen in the past 18 months, I was not in that number for Qualifying this morning, but then, what was that I spied in the replay a few hours later? The glimmers of an interesting race? Well, now I’m wondering if I really want to set my alarm for 4AM tomorrow…
On to the video games news, in what has been perhaps the biggest week of game releases so far this year.
It was all about the reviews this week, and what a week of reviews it was!

Embattled developer Bungie will showcase The Final Shape, Destiny 2's latest, last, and perhaps most important expansion, next Tuesday, providing an update on the in-development project. The Final Shape was originally supposed to launch in February 2024 but was hit with a delay alongside last year's layoffs.
New week, new PC games! It's another mercifully brief four day week in the UK due to reasons of religion, so let's roll with an appropriately snappy intro that avoids any extended digressionary preambles about, oh, I don't know, magpies fighting outside my flat this morning. Did you know that European magpies are great mimics? Second only to the Northern Mockingbird, apparently, though many ornithologists contend that the Brown Thrasher is sorely overlooked. You certainly hear their vocal range when they squabble - I reckon somebody should train up a ChatGPT AI on their calls and no, stop it, I'm doing an anecdote!
While the sad news that developer Larian Studios will not be working on a sequel or DLC for the breakout 2023 RPG Baldur's Gate 3 is true, additional evil endings are on the way and should help salve the wound. Add that to the previously announced mod support promised for PS5, and that's all she wrote for the revolutionary roleplaying experience, which we hailed as «one of the greatest RPGs of our time.»
Sony first-party developer Bend Studios is staffing up for another «AAA live service» game, and it seems that PlayStation will continue to chase the live service dragon. Helldivers 2 players are now fully committed to the assault on the Automaton homeworlds in a preemptive campaign of «defensive annihilation». The first waves met stiff resistance from the machines, and the entire situation was at risk of becoming a dangerous quagmire for the forces of Freedom. Thankfully, seeing the situation developing, Super Earth is bringing out the big guns, unlocking two new Support Strategems to provide the power needed to punch through all that armour.

For those fortunate enough to be in the path of totality, a brief period of darkness, known as totality, will offer a unique opportunity to observe the sun's corona without the need for solar eclipse glasses.
