SMITE 2 has revealed that the skins from the first game cannot be ported to the sequel, as doing so would take 246 years, according to the developer. SMITE is one of the most iconic MOBAs ever produced and is back in the spotlight because of SMITE 2.
Launched in 2014 by Hi-Rez Studios, SMITE takes inspiration from Greek mythology and others such as Chinese, Egyptian, and Hindu to create its roster of over 100 playable characters. SMITE offers different game modes, the most popular of which is Conquest, in which players face off in League of Legends-style 5v5 matches intending to destroy the Titan at the center of the enemy base. But the internet went into a frenzy when, 10 years after releasing the first title, Hi-Rez announced SMITE 2. Marking the beginning of a new era, SMITE 2 will use Unreal Engine 5. Because of this technological leap, SMITE 2 has revealed that it won't bring important content from the first game into the sequel.
Art director Sherri Harney explained that SMITE skins cannot be transferred to SMITE 2, as doing so would cost 246 years of work. During the official announcement keynote, the dev said that the «hard call» was made in the early stages of SMITE 2's development. Harney also revealed that the game has over 1,600 skins released, from SMITE's collaboration with the metal band Slipknot to visuals inspired by popular franchises such as G.I. Joe, Magic: The Gathering, and RWBY. Art director Ben Knapp also explained that porting a single SMITE skin to SMITE 2 with just the effects would take about two months, and it wouldn't include any meaningful improvements.
To compensate SMITE and SMITE 2 players for this decision, Hi-Rez has made two announcements, the first being Legacy Gems. With this system, SMITE 2 players will receive virtual currency proportional to what they spent buying SMITE skins. The second announcement is the Divine Legacy event, which will reward SMITE and SMITE 2 players. For SMITE 2 players, they can unlock rewards in proportion to their progress in SMITE. This way, SMITE 2 players have the chance to grab up to 11 skins completely free. Meanwhile, SMITE players will unlock a Tier 4 and Tier 5 skin of their choice.
Players eager to try SMITE 2 will have the chance in the spring when the game's alpha test will take place. Those who want to join the test can sign up on the official SMITE 2 website. For players worried about the end of the first game, Hi-Rez has said that SMITE won't be shut down, at least not now, as the title will receive updates «for the foreseeable future.»
From Titan Forge Games comes a free-to-play MOBA, SMITE. Players can select from a roster of over 100 gods and battle one another in SMITE’s competitive PVP mode, which takes them into a

Qualcomm and its phone partners could be working in overdrive mode to bring flagships sporting the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 much earlier to the market, with one tipster commenting that the first handset may undergo mass production by September. Following a lengthy investigation, the United States Justice Department is set to file a lawsuit against Apple for potentially breaching antitrust laws. The department alleges Apple is using hardware and software limitations that make it harder for rival companies to compete with iPhones and iPads. If the filing goes ahead, it will mean each of the “big four” tech companies – Amazon, Meta, Google and Apple – will have been sued by the US federal government within the past five years for monopolistic business practices.
The science fiction and fantasy literature community is in uproar this week after the release of the voting statistics behind the 2023 Hugo Awards, which have raised accusations that the organizing committee censored the nominees in several categories.
Folks, I have seen some games like Hollow Knight in my day. Until this afternoon, I would've told you that the iconic Metroidvania's closest relative is probably Crowsworn, which proudly blends Hollow Knight's style with action games like Devil May Cry to make something that appears meaningfully different. But Crowsworn has now been dethroned by Deviator, a 2D Metroidvania that looks so uncannily similar that I genuinely thought we'd gotten new Hollow Knight Silksong screenshots for a split-second.
Back in 2024 Microsoft and Bethesda announced a new Indiana Jones game was coming our way courtesy of producer Todd Howard and Wolfenstein developer MachineGames, but since then, very little else has been revealed. Rumors that the game may be launching this year have been making the rounds, but it’s been radio silence from Microsoft and Bethesda themselves.
The leaks were right. Machine Games' next Nazi-biffer is called Indiana Jones And The Great Circle. It was shown for the first time during this evening's Xbox Developer Direct, where we got to see first-person punching and whipping, some tomb raiding, and plenty of Indy's face in cutscenes.
Machine Games’ Indiana Jones game received an official name and got its first gameplay showing during today’s Xbox Developer Direct. We also learned that it’s launching later this year. EW.com also confirmed that though Harrison Ford's likeness will appear in the game, he will be performed by Troy Baker (The Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite).
A unique Counter-Strike 2 weapon skin that apparently eluded gamers for around a decade has finally appeared online, and it could be worth up to $1 million. The skin is so rare that acquiring it through a loot box or trade has been considered a statistical anomaly.
Ever since he took over X (formerly Twitter), billionaire Elon Musk has implemented a myriad of changes on the microblogging platform. It started with mass layoffs which saw the reduction in over 80 percent of X's workforce. Then, Musk stopped legacy verification and brought out Twitter Blue, following which Larry the Bird was phased out and Twitter was officially rebranded to X. All these changes have been introduced in a bid to make it a super app that can compete with China's WeChat, offering services such as audio, video, messaging, and potentially payments and banking. However, that isn't attracting advertisers on the platform, even though X's latest move involves becoming a “video-first platform”. Know all about it.
