Sega's next Sonic game looks a lot like Fall Guys

When GTA 6 hits the shelves next year, it's poised to become a gaming sensation, likely shattering sales records worldwide. However, amid the anticipation, a significant portion of gamers may find themselves unable to join the action.

Sonic Rumble, a new multiplayer Sonic the Hedgehog game, has finally been confirmed following months of leaks and rumors. The past few years have been an exciting time for fans of Sega’s super-fast platforming mascot, with plenty of Sonic the Hedgehog games, tie-in media, and social media events either released or announced. The most recent game was Sonic Dream Team, a mobile spin-off that launched on Apple Arcade in December. Sega has also announced a special “Year of Shadow” campaign, celebrating Sonic the Hedgehog’s dark anti-hero ahead of his big-screen debut later this year.

The CEO of Battlefield developer Electronic Arts confirmed the next entry into the franchise will be a live-service title. The Battlefield franchise remains one of the longest-running first-person shooter series and an iconic IP in the video game industry, cultivating a global hardcore fan base with roots tracing as far back as 2002. Now, EA is working on the next mainline entry in the franchise in the hopes of releasing another successful live-service title.

The next Battlefield game after the underwhelming Battlefield 2042 will continue to lean on the series’ evolution into a live service offering, the CEO of EA has said, while revealing that the largest development team in the series’ history is currently working on the upcoming shooter.

Sega unveiled a new Sonic the Hedgehog game today, and it’s a multiplayer game for mobile devices that’s reminiscent of battle royale platformers like Fall Guys.

Sega has been playing a little fast and loose with Sonic the Hedgehog lately, using the blue blur for experimental projects like The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog. At the same time, the movies based on the franchise have been surprisingly good. Here’s another treat for the Sonic enjoyers out there: Sega just announced Sonic Rumble, a 32-player PvP mobile game created with Finnish studio Rovio.

With Nintendo finally confirming that a successor to the is due to be announced later this fiscal year, more rumors are surfacing regarding the specs and features included in the new console. One popular feature request is that of backwards compatibility, enabling those who have amassed a large library of games over the past seven years to easily continue playing them on the new hardware, sometimes with patches offering graphical and performance enhancements.
