ScummVM 2.8 Brings 50 More Retro Games to Modern Platforms

Black Forest Games, a German video game developer subsidiary of THQ Nordic, which Embracer Group owns, is reportedly planning to lay off around 50% of its employees. Last December, two Danish developers owned by Embracer Group, 3D Realms and Slipgate Ironworks, announced that over half of their staff would have their roles eliminated. With that announcement, around 1000 people were laid off by Embracer in the second half of 2023. Now, Black Forest Games is seemingly the latest developer to be affected.

Xbox has announced the launch of an entirely new program, designed to bring attention to indie games on its storefront. As announced in an Xbox Wire post, the program called 'Indie Selects' will change its displayed games to keep a consistent rotation of some of the best indie games available, so you'll never be short of new adventures.

Square Enix appears to be on the verge of shaking up its development portfolio. According to its president, we may soon see fewer titles, but a more diverse array of genres coming out of a developer and publisher traditionally known for its massive RPG franchises.

As Grand Theft Auto 6's official reveal trailer moves up the charts of the most viewed game trailers on YouTube, an unsuspecting mobile hit still claims the number one spot. Having dropped early last month, the long awaited first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 lit up the internet and finally gave fans of the franchise a glimpse at the breathtaking world of modern Vice City and its surrounding areas.

PS4 game sales were higher than Xbox Series X/S software sales in Europe last year.

Over the last decade or so, the entertainment industry has seen many rises and falls across all brands. These changes have affected music, TV, movies, and even video games. Things “for sure never going to fail” started to fail. Then, things that “could never work” have done well and made many wonder if things could go further down that path. One such path is that of the “game subscription service,” which was punctuated by the Xbox Game Pass, which has done wonders for Microsoft. However, Larian Studios isn’t on board with this notion, nor with notions of such services made by fellow game developers.

The Xbox Game Pass additions keep rolling in with the new year, with January 16 seeing Resident Evil 2 and Those Who Remain join Microsoft's subscription service, and even more is on the horizon. Alongside their additions, Microsoft took the time to confirm the next five games coming to Xbox Game Pass in January, as well as the two coming in February.

Microsoft has announced new titles coming to Xbox Game Pass in late January to early February, which includes Palworld, Persona 3 Reload, F1 23, and more.

Capcom games are being review-bombed after the developer recently introduced new anti-modding software.
