One of the focuses of this year's RPG-shooter Remnant II is build crafting, with the game’s Archetypes (the game’s name for classes) being at the core of that experience. The new Remnant II: The Awakened King DLC adds a additional Archetype, the Ritualist, and like many of the game’s classes, it needs to be unlocked in a specific way, but don’t worry, we’ve taken the mystery out of it.
In order to switch to a new Archetype or set up a dual-class character you’ll need to unlock them by acquiring a special item called an “Engram.” These Engrams are equippable items crafted by Wallace (the guy up on the crane in the Ward 13 hub) in exchange for 10 Lumenite Crystals, 1000 Scrap, and one special item, each of which is acquired in a different way. Here’s how to unlock the Ritualist Archetype with a minimum of Frustration…
Engram needed – Cursed Effigy
Special crafting item needed – Ragged Poppet
And there you go, the Ritualist is yours! It’s a pretty nifty little Archetype that allows you to apply various negative status effects to enemies and potentially inflict big damage. It takes some mastery to get your head around, but high-level players should have some fun.
Remnant II is available now on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. The Awakened King DLC is available as part of the game’s Deluxe and Ultimate Editions or can be purchased a la carte for $10. You can check out Wccftech’s Remnant II guides here.

Like the base game, the new Remnant II: The Awakened King includes a number of events that may randomly happen as you play through the adventure. One of the new ones included in The Awakened King is the Ethereal Manor, a creepy mansion that will trap you within its confines unless you can puzzle a way out. This can be a bit frustrating if you can't figure out what you’re supposed to do, but don’t worry, we’ve got the solution for you…
The new Remnant II: The Awakened King expansion includes a variety of weapons, gear, and other goodies to collect, with one of the most sought-after being the stylish new Crimson Guard Armor Set. Acquiring this armor requires you to take a series of very specific steps and, as a bonus, doing so will also unlock a dark secret ending to The Awakened King storyline. So, here’s how to get the Crimson Guard Armor Set and check out that secret ending…
Remnant II has had a solid run since launching earlier this year, attracting over 2 million players with its unique combination of looter-shooter action, Dark Souls vibes, and Unreal Engine 5 visuals. I had some reservations about Remnant II, criticizing its gunplay and underwhelming approach to loot in my review, but I’ll admit the game’s sprawling procedurally generated world offered plenty of innovation and promise. Remnant II had a lot of the right pieces, it just couldn’t quite fit them together.
A brand-new character archetype called The Ritualist can be unlocked in DLC for , giving you a class with never-before-seen skills and abilities. This wielder of taboo magic specializes in resisting negative status effects and applying them to enemies instead. This archetype has a variety of strong builds that make it perfect for a primary or even secondary class selection for your character.
