Remedy has confirmed plans to grow and expand the Alan Wake franchise following a successful launch for the second mainline entry in the series.
After struggling for over a decade to make a sequel to 2010’s original, Alan Wake 2 was finally released last October to widespread critical acclaim.
In addition to winning multiple high-profile awards, Remedy said on Friday that Alan Wake 2 has sold 1.3 million copies, making it the studio’s fastest selling game to date.
“We are happy with the start of Alan Wake 2’s sales,” commented Remedy’s CEO Tero Virtala. “The price point has also remained at a high level, and the game has already recouped a significant part of the development and marketing expenses.
“We will continue to develop the game to serve existing fans and attract new players and expect the game to continue selling well.”
Remedy is working on two paid Alan Wake 2 expansions. The first, Night Springs, is currently scheduled to be released in late spring 2024, while the second, The Lakehouse, has yet to receive a launch window.
“We now have two established franchises: Control and Alan Wake, which are linked through the Remedy Connected Universe,” Virtala added. “Growing and expanding these franchises will be a key part of our future.”
VGC’s Alan Wake 2 review called it “a confident and often ground-breaking thriller” featuring brilliant writing, incredible visuals and genuine scares.
The survival horror title, which won the Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction prize at Thursday’s DICE Awards, was also VGC’s game of the year for 2023.
