Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare

Michael Unsworth, whose work includes both Red Dead Redemption titles as well as GTA 5, has left Rockstar Games after 16 years (via VGC). A user on the GTA forums named Rucke found that Unsworth had updated his LinkedIn profile to show that he no longer works for Rockstar Games.

Red Dead Redemption is out now on the PS4 and Nintendo Switch and unsurprisingly, it is a barebones upgrade to the revered Western odyssey. During the initial announcement, Rockstar Games never revealed any technical specifications, simply calling it a ‘conversion' that didn't mention anything about visual improvements or support for 60fps. That seems to be the case, judging by the new press release — dropped launch day — which states that regardless of the platform, the game is locked to 30fps. The new bit of information, however, is that the port from Double Eleven Studios runs at 1080p resolution on the Nintendo Switch and PS4, going up to 4K resolution on the PS4 Pro and PS5 (playable via backward compatibility).

Red Dead Redemption publisher Take-Two Interactive lifted the lid on all of the remaster/remake rumors earlier this week, revealing a PS4 and Nintendo Switch port that has gone down like a lead balloon with the fanbase. On top of the general disappointment that the port will be locked to 30fps, will have no graphical improvements, and will have the multiplayer stripped out, the asking price has been a big topic of debate, as Take-Two is asking fans part with $49.99/£39.99 if they want to play Red Dead Redemption on PS4 or Switch.

Red Dead Redemption is finally headed to PS4 and Nintendo Switch, on August 17. No, this isn't a remake or that long-rumoured remastered version, but rather a port of the original 2010 game, and includes the Undead Nightmare zombie add-on. Rockstar Games' Western epic was originally launched on the PS3 and Xbox 360, after which it was made compatible to run on newer Xbox consoles via backwards compatibility. Double Eleven Studios — known for working on the Lego Harry Potter games and Minecraft Dungeons — is responsible for this new port, which they're calling a ‘conversion.' The studio was founded by ex-Rockstar developers.

Oh, and possibly, dear. If you were hyped up after all those rumours about a Red Dead Redemption remake then you are going to be disappointed as although the game has been announced it is for Switch and PS4 only. This is not a remake, this is not a 60fps 4K version for modern consoles, this is the old game but running on new consoles. Well, a ten year old console in the case of the PS4.
