Publisher Outright Games has just given fans their first look at Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed, an upcoming video game that ties into last year’s Mutant Mayhem animated film. Aside from the Heroes-In-A-Half-Shell making their long-awaited return to the silver screen, the past few years have been an exhilarating time for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise — especially when it comes to video games.
Last year, THQ Nordic announced that it was working on a triple-A title based on the popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin storyline, one that will reportedly take inspiration from the last two God of War games. Meanwhile, Fortnite recently saw the addition of the Turtles, Master Splinter, April O’Neal, and the evil Shredder as guest character skins in one of its latest crossovers. Finally, Raw Thrills’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants will come to home consoles later this year with new features and content that the original arcade release didn’t have.
Last September, publisher Outright Games announced that it was making a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles title, and now it has provided eager fans with a more detailed look at this upcoming tie-in. TMNT: Mutants Unleashed is a story-driven 3D brawler/platformer that picks up where Mutant Mayhem left off, with the Turtles facing off against a new wave of mutants threatening New York City. Players will take control of the four Turtle siblings in either single-player or couch co-op (which could be added post-launch) as they battle their way across various urban environments and interact with characters from the movie.
So far, there isn’t an official release date set for this latest TMNT-based video game, but Mutants Unleashed is expected to drop sometime in Q4 of this year. This would place its release after the Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series premiers on Paramount + this summer. Just like Mutants Unleashed, this two-season series will serve as a bridge between Mutant Mayhem and its eventual sequel and follow the Turtles as they emerge from the sewers and battle new villains.
Walmart will reportedly offer up a special edition of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed that will include an early access code for an in-game TMNT outfit and cost $39.99. Mutants Unleashed will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, and looks to not only continue the story started in 2023’s hit Mutant Mayhem film, but also the exciting wave of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video games being announced and released over the past few years.
