PSVR2 Rails Shooter Switchback VR Dramatically Overhauls Visuals with 8GB PS5 Patch | Push Square

Despite being billed as a spiritual successor to Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, rails shooter The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR was dismally disappointing at launch. While its gameplay was tired, it also looked surprisingly bad: low resolution and blurry, with bad textures across the board. Honestly, it didn’t feel like it was running on the superior PSVR2 hardware.
Now a new 8GB patch has released, transforming the presentation. While we haven’t had a chance to try it ourselves yet, early impressions are resoundingly positive, with Reddit fans reporting much higher quality textures, deeper blacks, and improved fidelity across the board. Unfortunately, it sounds like the gameplay hasn’t been tuned, so this is purely a presentation thing.
Of course, while the title should never have released in the state it did, Supermassive Games probably deserves some credit for going back to the drawing board and upping the overall quality like this. Time permitting, we’ll dig out our PSVR2 headset and pen some updated impressions ASAP, but it’s good to hear this game has been massively improved after its disastrous launch.

Glad I bought it but never got around playing it. I shall try it now, since it doesn't sound like they're planning on improving gameplay, so no reason to keep waiting for another patch.
Personally I really enjoyed it at launch. Just a fun experience with some great jump scares. Will definitely try it again with the updates as it is fun to replay through.
I deleted it after just an hour of play because of those terrible graphics: the octagonal «swarms» of rats that didn't even move but just kinda blinked en masse across the screen were just the worst. It will be interesting to see what the patch does.
The difference in visuals was night and day after I booted it up, following the update. It would’ve been nice to have launched like that.
Just got it after hearing that the patch went live! Just two levels done, and i'm enjoying myself for sure! It gets the adrenaline pumping like nothing else, and the visuals are nice. Nothing really remarkable, it's no Horizon CotM or RE8 but it gets the job done and it's clear and (mostly)sharp. Glad Supermassive Games sorted it out!
Played through it once at release and really enjoyed it. Only thing I didn’t like was the lack of speed sections. It’s almost like they forgot it’s on a roller coaster.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to playing it again with this upgrade. It looks like a huge improvement on all the YouTube videos I’ve seen.
Glad to hear about the graphical upgrade. Will give this a shot again
