PS5 Worldwide Shipments Top 54.8 Million Units

Stardew Valley sales have surpassed 30 million copies globally across all platforms, the game's creator has revealed.

Helldivers 2 continues to sell well. The game had surpassed one million units sold just four days after its February 8 launch. Arrowhead Creative Director Johan Pilestedt has now confirmed it is around three million units just over two weeks after the release.

Bandai Namco has announced today that Tekken 8 has surpassed two million units sold in its first month. This follows Circana (formerly the NPD Group) confirming that Bandai Namco's fighting game was the top new game of January across the United States, beaten only by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III in the monthly chart.

Today is the seventh anniversary of the launch of NieR: Automata in Japan, so PlatinumGames took some time to celebrate the occasion with a blog post. The studio also revealed that the game has now surpassed eight million units sold to date.

With all the news surrounding FromSoftware’s Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, one major announcement lay in Bandai Namco’s official press release. It announced that the open-world Souls-like action RPG had shipped over 23 million units worldwide since launching in February 2022. The figures include physical shipments and digital sales (Steam included)

Fantasy role playing game Tales of Arise has sold three million copies ahead of arriving on the PlayStation Plus Games Catalog and Xbox Game Pass.

Gearbox Publishing and developer abstraction has announced Gigantic: Rampage Edition, a “premium and definitive release” of the original multiplayer online battle arena shooter Gigantic from Motiga. It will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store on April 9 for $19.99.

Last week saw a couple of notable new video game releases, and in the UK, they haven’t all performed equally upon their debut. As per data released by the Gfk (shared by GamesIndustry’s Christopher Dring on Twitter), the Nintendo Switch’s Mario vs Donkey Kong remake debuted on top of the charts, with its physical launch sales in the region an impressive 64% higher than what fellow first-party spinoff Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker managed upon its release back in 2018.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has now comfortably surpassed 10 million units sold, accurate as of 4th February, 2024. It took the original game a little under a year to topple 13.2 million units, so this is clearly an exceptional result for the sequel. It’s also worth noting that as around 55 million PS5 consoles have been sold, approximately one-in-five bought Peter Parker and Miles Morales’ latest.

Console sales are crucial, and Sony will be pleased it’s shipped almost 55 million PS5s to date – but monthly active users are also an important metric for organisations these days. Platform holders want customers to be logging in often, because when they’re engaged, there’s a good chance they’ll spend money on software and add-ons through the PS Store.

The Monster Hunter franchise has turned into one of Capcom’s biggest and most successful properties in recent years, while also enjoying sustained sales over prolonged periods. Unsurprisingly, the series continued to move a solid amount of copies in Q3 of fiscal year 2023/24 (October-December).
