Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown senior designer ‘would love’ to make a Zelda game

The senior designer of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has said he would love to work on a similar game based on The Legend of Zelda.

As spotted by TheGamer, senior game designer Rémi Boutin and world director Christophe Pic were hosting an ‘Ask Me Anything’ event Reddit, in which they invited players to ask them questions about the game.

One user asked: “If you could make a game for an IP that you don’t / haven’t had have access to – for example Mario or Final Fantasy – what IP would you pick and what kind of game would you make?”

Boutin answered: “Personally I would LOVE to work with the Zelda IP. Maybe a strange spin-off based on Adventure of Link? (and of course Castlevania).”

Although Boutin didn’t specifically state that he would like to make his Zelda game in the Metroidvania style, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link is the only game in the series that was played almost entirely from a 2D side-scrolling perspective, suggesting this is the type of game Boutin is referring to.

Despite being met with unusually negative feedback from players when it was initially announced, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has proved to be a critical success.

The game currently has Metacritic scores of 87 (Xbox Series X/S), 87 (Switch), 86 (PS5) and 84 (PC).

VGC’s Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown review calls the game “the reboot the franchise desperately needed”, saying: “Excellent platforming, clever puzzles and a huge map make it one of the best Metroidvania games in years, and kicks off 2024 in style.”
