Sega has announced Sonic Dream Team, a new 3D platformer releasing exclusively to Apple Arcade.

The Year of Shadow continues its celebration in 2024. This time, the moody hedgehog will be getting a prequel anime, alongside his starring role in Sonic x Shadow Generations later this year.

Fans have said for years that Sonic and friends need to return to the 2D gameplay style that made the franchise famous in the first place. SEGA hesitated for many years but eventually made this game to see how fans felt about it. Overall, the praise has been positive, and the members of Sonic Team worked hard to try and deliver a balance between the Sonic titles of old while also making the game feel fresh and new.

The final update for Sonic Frontiers is now live and adds playable Tails, Amy and Knuckles for the first time in a 3D game since Sonic 06.

Sonic Superstars is shaping up to be the biggest Sonic game of the year partly because of the new 2.5D aesthetic for Classic Sonic. However, Sonic Team suggests Classic Sonic's new look may be permanent, as they believe pixel art won't be a viable style for Sonic in 10 to 20 years.

In an interview with Game Informer, Sonic Team creative officer Takashi Iizuka discussed a bit more about Trip’s origins and role in Sonic Superstars.

Sonic Superstars is giving us classic 2D platforming with a twist, in the form of the new Chaos Emerald abilities. Whether it's slowing down time or sending a bunch of duplicates to go and take some hits for you, there are now a bunch of new ways to approach stages and boss battles. Well, there are exactly seven ways to mix things up, because there's one for each Chaos Emerald - something that created a problem during development.

Sonic Team’s Sonic Superstars brings the beloved blue hedgehog and friends back to the side-scrolling platforming space, albeit with 2.5D visuals and four-player co-op. However, along with all-new Zones, the platformer also introduces a twist on the Chaos Emeralds. While you acquire them from Special Stages, they each provide different abilities.
