Overwatch 2: Invasion Trailer Introduces Illari

Blizzard recently released its biggest update yet for Overwatch 2, a content drop called Invasion that’s headlined by a powerful new support hero and a handful of story-driven PvE levels. But the bigger draw for longtime Overwatch players is a new core game mode, Flashpoint. That mode, inspired by Call of Duty’s Headquarters Pro game type, is a breath of fresh air for Overwatch players who’ve been cycling through many of the same maps and modes for the past 10 months.

The Invasion is ongoing in Overwatch 2, with players in the hero shooter taking on the forces of Null Sector in new story missions (assuming they paid the $15). For everyone involved in PvP, there’s a new hero in town – Illari, the last Child of the Sun. A new Origin Story is available, highlighting her tragic past. Check it out below.

Overwatch 2’s latest season, Invasion, is now live and marks the title’s exit from “early access” (Blizzard’s words, not mine). Along with three PvE story missions, it features the new Flashpoint PvP mode, a new Premium Battle Pass, a limited-time PvE event, and Illari, the latest Support hero. With the launch of the new season of Overwatch 2 bringing with it a new PvE game mode, Blizzard has stated that the game has now officially exited its early access phase. According to IGN, executive producer Jared Neuss declared Overwatch 2 to now be a “full” live service game with the launch of Season 6: Invasion.

Overwatch 2 season 6 starts Aug. 10, bringing a new support hero, new maps, and the long-awaited arrival of new story content for Blizzard’s free-to-play hero shooter. It’s a big content drop, with some of it free, and some of it requiring a purchase.

A new hero comes to Overwatch 2 with season 6: Illari, the game’s new support class character who hails from Peru and uses solar-powered abilities. She’s the 10th support class character, and she brings a straightforward kit of abilities to the Overwatch roster. Illari’s kit has a low skill ceiling that should be great for Overwatch 2 newcomers, or existing players who want to try out a healer.

Blizzard Entertainment’s latest trailer for Overwatch 2 Season 6: Invasion went live earlier this week and finally showcased Illari, the next Support hero. It also tweeted a roadmap for upcoming content, confirming that the previously delayed Hero Mastery would arrive on September 5th.
