Legendary composer Nobuo Uematsu will compose the central theme for the as-yet-unnamed third game in Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, tentatively committing to the job after being put on the spot by Rebirth director Tetsuya Nomura.
In a conversation posted to the Square Enix Music Channel (thanks, VGC), Uematsu, Nomura, and writer Kazushige Nojima sat down to discuss the music the series is famous for, particularly «No Promises to Keep», Rebirth's main theme. Putting the master maestro on the spot, Nomura asked: «Since you worked on the first and second game in the series, it stands to reason that you must come back for the third. Not that we've made it official yet, but I'd like to believe you're a lock for the next title? You'll do it, right?»
Uematsu laughed, but Nomura wouldn't be put off: «Again, this isn't an official statement or offer. Just a gentleman's agreement, maybe? You will come back for the third game, right?» Finally, Uematsu relented, committing at least to tentatively return: «It'd be my honour.»
Pushing his luck, Nomura asks: «Are you up for the challenge, though? [It's] going to be hard to surpass the songs you've already composed for us. What are you going to do?» Nomura replies: «For starters, I'm going to take a vacation.»
«I don't think I have the physical and mental strength to do it anymore»
Uematsu recently said that he thinks his days of scoring entire games are probably over as his long and storied career winds down. However, he hopes to continue composing themes and working with his band Uematsu Nobuo ConTIKI. Do you think this on-air commitment constitutes a binding contract? Let us know in the comments section below.

@AdamNovice
It does for old school Japanese. Rebirths was a bit too close to «Eyes on me» from VIII for my taste though, hope the next one is a bit different.
I really like Promises to keep. It rubbed me the wrong way when I first heard it outside the game but then the instrumental version hit me and I couldn’t stop humming it for days
Uematsu is a legend so anything he composes is a treat for the ears.
@Czar_Khastik Honestly the one monster in Final Fantasy I fear lol.

Sony likes to put on major State of Play livestreams and host its PlayStation Showcase during the month of May, and it appears the company is gearing up to do so once again in 2024. Giant Bomb journalist Jeff Grubb reports he's heard «a bunch of times» from sources that Sony is planning an event for May, and it sounds more like another big PlayStation Showcase rather than a more subdued State of Play.

Nobuo Uematsu, the legendary composer of the original Final Fantasy 7, recently stated that he would love to return for the third Fantasy 7 Remake game. 1997’s Final Fantasy 7 was a groundbreaking JRPG experience for its time on the original PlayStation, wowing gamers with its cutting-edge 3D graphics, emotional storyline and characters, and moving soundtrack that contains some of the Final Fantasy franchise’s most iconic themes. A modern-day reimagining was on many players’ wish lists well before Final Fantasy 7 Remake was first announced in 2015, and its release five years later was met with much critical acclaim and record sales on the PlayStation 4.
