Nintendo has revealed the file sizes for the upcoming Switch exclusive games Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD. The Nintendo Switch has released multiple exclusive games in 2024 so far, including the Mario vs. Donkey Kong remake and Princess Peach: Showtime. Looking ahead, there are even more Switch exclusive games for fans of Nintendo's home console/handheld hybrid to look forward to in the near future.
First up is the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake, which is releasing on May 23. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will be followed by Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, scheduled for release on June 27. Besides those games, the only other upcoming Switch exclusives that fans really know about are 2025's Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4, which has had little to no updates since its development was rebooted years ago.
The jury is still out on whether Metroid Prime 4 will even release for the original Switch or if it will wind up on the Switch 2, but in the meantime, Nintendo fans now know how much space they need to reserve on their consoles for Paper Mario and Luigi's Mansion 2. As spotted by Nintendo Life, Nintendo has listed the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake file size as 5.0 GB, while Luigi's Mansion 2 HD will take up 3.3 GB of space. All things considered, neither game has all that big of a file size, and so it should be easy to make room for anyone that decides to buy either game digitally instead of physically.
As far as Switch exclusive releases go, 2024 hasn't been all that hot for the console. The reviews for Switch exclusives like Mario vs. Donkey Kong and Princess Peach: Showtime were mostly positive, but failed to reach the same heights as some of the Switch games from previous years. And while Paper Mario and Luigi's Mansion 2 on Switch will be brand-new ways to experience classic games, they are still just revamped versions of older titles.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A is releasing in 2025 and Metroid Prime 4 has been MIA for years, so, as it stands, the 2024 Switch slate is looking rather bare. With Switch 2 rumors swirling, it will be interesting to see if Nintendo has any major Switch exclusive games up its sleeve for this holiday season or if it is focusing its effort on the eventual successor console.
