Akira Toriyama, the mangaka whose work in video games included designing the characters for two of the most influential RPGs ever made, Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest, on top of creating one of the most influential series across all of pop-culture in Dragon Ball, has passed away.

Launched on February 29th worldwide, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth for PS5 received extensive praise from critics. The game was first released as a Switch exclusive, later being brought to PC and Xbox and even receiving a sequel in Octopath Traveler 2 last year. Now, however, fans are noticing an odd change to the game's Switch listing.

Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are two masterfully made retellings of the classic PlayStation RPG from 1997. The developers behind the Life is Strange remaster, spin-offs Before the Storm and True Colors, and The Expanse: A Telltale Series, Deck Nine, have laid off 20% of the studio’s staff due to “the game industry’s worsening market conditions”. The latest job losses are the second wave of layoffs at the company in the last 12 months.
