Rumors have been flying about Nintendo's next console for a while now, including recent claims that a release is planned for late 2024. At the time, it was claimed that development kits had already been sent out to some of Nintendo's key partners, but now the company may have given even more devs a look at the new console, as it was allegedly shown off at a "behind closed door" event during Gamescom.
This comes from Windows Central reported Jez Corden, who claims a first look at Nintendo's new console was given to "select press/devs" at Gamescom, and that leaks or an official reveal could happen fairly soon. It's worth noting that Corden states that these are just "rumors" that he has heard, but it would make sense for Nintendo to reveal its next console this year if the reports of a 2024 launch are accurate.

This also isn't the first time we've heard about the next Nintendo Switch making an appearance at Gamescom. Before the event, a report from startmenu claimed that Nintendo was planning to "confirm the existence of its next console" at Gamescom. However, they also claim that Nintendo hasn't been booking any appointments with press behind closed doors, which goes against Corden's claims.
If we're being realistic, it's likely we'll be waiting a while before we actually get an official Nintendo Switch 2 reveal, or whatever the console's official name actually is. Nintendo has some big titles launching within the next few months, including DLC for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, the Super Mario RPG remake, and a few other smaller titles.
Announcing a new console before its biggest titles launch seems like it could potentially cannibalise sales, though Nintendo is a company that marches to the beat of its own drum, and often does things outside of the industry standard. However, it's worth noting that the Nintendo Switch was only officially announced less than half a year before it released, meaning we can probably expect a similarly short amount of time between reveal and release here too.
That doesn't mean that we won't be getting leaks for a while though. Pretty much everyone and their grandma knew about the Nintendo Switch prior to its announcement, and the more that Nintendo shows the thing off to more and more devs, the higher the likelihood that we start seeing some potato quality images online. Until then, Nintendo fans will have to remain patient.
