Microsoft has announced the next wave of titles heading to Xbox Game Pass for console, PC and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

The recent and accidental Microsoft document and email dump, courtesy of its legal wranglings with the FTC, is turning out to be the mother of all console leaks. Along with game roadmaps extending out as far as 2030, including revenue forecasts for specific game titles, and juicy insights into upcoming refreshes for the Xbox Series X and S consoles, there are details concerning the next all-new Xbox console, due in 2028. The biggie? Microsoft is seriously considering a switch away from x86 CPU cores to Arm.

Microsoft could reportedly release a revamped Xbox Series X console and an upgraded controller in 2024, followed by a fully next-gen Xbox console in 2028, if a leak from the FTC v. Microsoft court documents is to be believed.

According to documents accidentally leaked by Microsoft during its trial with the FTC (spotted by The Verge), we got to peek at Xbox's plans for the future, including a refreshed, disc-less version of the Xbox Series X and, more notable from the PC gaming perspective, a fancy new controller. 

Over the weekend, over 120 documents were published to the United States District Court Northern District of California’s files website pertaining to the Federal Trade Commission v. Microsoft Corporation case regarding Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

New leaks suggest that the final nail in the Xbox Series S' coffin could be coming sooner than expected. Microsoft released two versions of its Xbox console in 2020: the Series S and the Series X. This is a common strategy in the current home console generation, with the PS5 also releasing in two differently priced models. However, the Series S lags far behind all the other consoles on the market today. While it has a lower price point, its limitations make it a tough sell, and many have long believed it's time to ditch the Xbox Series S for an upgraded console.

Microsoft and Xbox representatives appeared in court various times earlier this year to get its colossal $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard legally approved. As usual, specific documents, emails, and more were sealed away from the public and press during court proceedings. However, various unseen documents have leaked, which is how we learned Xbox head Phil Spencer considered acquiring Nintendo and Warner Bros. Games at one point. Other documents point to Microsoft's plans for an Xbox Series X/S refresh next year alongside a new controller that features gyro, haptic feedback, and more, as reported by The Verge.

Overnight on September 19, a huge Microsoft and Bethesda leak sprang from the Xbox FTC court documents. Information about new console plans, upcoming Xbox Series X games, and the company's reaction to defining industry events has emerged thanks to improperly-redacted court documents, giving a fascinating insight into one of gaming's biggest players, as well as details about a whole suite of new developments.

During its trial with the FTC, Microsoft said it expected the next console generation to start in 2028. Many suspected it had plans for a next-gen Xbox, which is more or less confirmed thanks to several leaked court documents (courtesy of Resetera). However, the company will seemingly refresh the current Xbox Series consoles with new features before that.
