Today, New World opens up its PTR for the upcoming Rise of the Angry Earth expansion.
This round of testing is a shorter, focused one. In recent announcements, community Q&As and dev chats, the team has mentioned that the expansion would be much shorter than they normally have for a test. The PTR will open today at 8:00 AM PT/ 11:00 AM ET and run through September 18th at 8:00 AM PT/ 11:00 AM ET. That’s it, less than one week for this phase.
Rise of the Angry Earth is set to bring mounts, a new weapon, the Flail, the Elysian Wilds zone, replacing First Light, and a series of overhauls, reworks, and balance changes. There will also be new story content, new Heartrune ability, and other new mechanics, like the riding trade skill and mount quests. For this PTR, the Amazon Games team is looking for feedback on a number of these features. Specifically, they want to focus on 12 particular features:
While on paper this is just 12 items, the scope of how far reaching all of these mechanics and features are to the expansion is a huge amount of content. With the shorter test, you might want to focus on just a couple, or try to get a taste of them all.
If you plan to join the test to check out some of the new content and help the team to polish up the release, you can do so by loading up the New World Public Test Realm client.

As friends, family and long-time RPS readers can probably attest, reverse Alleyway puzzler Holedown became a mild obsession of mine a few years back. Every spare idle moment I had, I'd be bouncing balls down its infinite planetary mining silos, mesmerised by the vacant stare of its iconic white Holedown worm (my record is still 1090m, in case you're wondering). It's a most joyous day, then (as much as it can be on a day like today), to hear that solo developer Grapefrukt will soon be back with another ball-bouncing beaut in the form of Subpar Pool, which is coming to PC (and phones) on October 12th.
Polish indie studio The Astronauts launched Witchfire in early access last week via the Epic Games Store. It's the developer's second game following The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, and it's a completely different genre (rogue-lite dark fantasy first-person shooter) compared to that game.
Starfield was extensively playtested by Bethesda devs often working from home, and Todd Howard says this approach worked so well that the studio's going to apply the method to its future games, with the studio's next confirmed, albeit far-off project obviously being The Elder Scrolls 6.
Developer CD Projekt Red has apologized to Russian players for a number of anti-Russian messages that were included in the new Ukrainian localization of Cyberpunk 2077.
War Thunder Mobile will deliver hardware-accelerated ray tracing and more improvements on the brand new Apple iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro. Meanwhile, on PC, War Thunder gets its latest major update, with new Hungarian vehicles, a new map, and visual updates.
As part of Capcom's Tokyo Game Show presentation, we've gotten our most extensive look yet at Dragon's Dogma 2, and it's looking like exactly what I want out of a follow-up to the cult classic open-world RPG.
Imagine unravelling a mystery, one fantastical two-dimensional world at a time.
