MechWarrior 5: Clans Gameplay Shown off in Latest Video

Supergiant Games just treated Hades fans to an extensive look at the game's upcoming sequel. Seriously — the developer hosted a three-hour livestream that showed off Hades II's gameplay, new features and mechanics, as well as the new designs for its characters based on the gods of Greek mythology. Supergiant's Creative Director Greg Kasavin and Studio Director Amir Rao demonstrated the abilities of the game's new protagonist, Melinoë. While she's the sister of Zagreus, the first title's protagonist, and Hades II is a direct sequel to the original, Kasavin and Rao said players don't need to have prior knowledge of the first game and of Greek mythology to enjoy it. Old fans, however, will catch «delightful references» here and there.

At GDC 2024, Canadian developer Piranha Games showcased new info and footage of MechWarrior 5: Clans, a standalone game and the first in a very long time to be narrative-focused in this franchise. As suggested by the game's title, this will be a Clan Invasion story (the first since 1995's MechWarrior 2), diving into the period that changed the politics of the Inner Sphere for good. According to the developers, this will be an ideal entry point for series newcomers, too.

Ubisoft Forward is returning on June 10, live from Los Angeles, the publisher announced today on Twitter. This is Ubisoft's premiere event to show updates, upcoming releases of announced games, and brand-new unannounced projects. Once, it was part of the various Electronic Entertainment Expo conferences. However, with E3 now effectively dead, it has become part of its soft replacement: Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest, which starts on June 7 this year. There's no word yet on which games will be shown at Ubisoft Forward, but we can certainly speculate based on the publisher's known lineup.

Targeting a PS5 release at some point this year, MechWarrior 5: Clans has a clear goal in mind: to expand its audience beyond the hardcore fans of this long-running series. Indeed, MechWarrior has always been a fairly demanding franchise — which has largely stuck to PC — but Clans is built to be the most accessible entry to date (and the best-looking entry, thanks to Unreal Engine 5).

Alex Garland has confirmed his plans to retire just two weeks before his latest pic Civil War is set to hit the big screen.

The first gameplay footage from the upcoming standalone tactical game MechWarrior 5: Clans has been released by developer Piranha Games. Although sporting a ‘5’ in the title, Clans is a completely new game in the MechWarrior universe with an “entirely new style of game design,” the overview reads.

The Mecha genre is having a bit of a moment right now. Last year’s Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon garnered mainstream attention thanks to a growing love for developer FromSoftware. Another title, Mecha Break, had a big moment at last year’s Game Awards when it debuted on stage. It’s a great time for players who love giant robots already — and there are more exciting mecha games on the horizon.

Piranha Games has released the first gameplay trailer and screenshots for MechWarrior 5: Clans, its September 2023-announced standalone tactical action game, as well as confirmed PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series as its previously announced “PlayStation” and “Xbox” platforms.
