After a week's worth of speculation, Embark has released the trailer for a brand-new game mode for TheFinals, dubbed Terminal Attack. Initially teased by Embark under the name Attack and Defend, the new game mode draws clear inspiration from the classic Search and Destroy mode from Call of Duty. Terminal Attack dials up the competitive spirit of The Finals to 11, featuring a 5v5 format played over best-of-seven rounds.
The main objective revolves around Attackers planting a Decryption Key on a designated terminal while the Defenders are tasked to protect it. However, what truly sets Terminal Attack apart is its unforgiving nature, according to the phrase «No healing. No revives. One life.» that flashes in the beginning of the trailer, essentially confirming a permadeath mechanic for the mode. High stakes are a given, then, but Terminal Attack differs from Search and Destroy in one crucial aspect: the destructibility of The Finals' environments, including floors. This makes fortification of the terminal rather tricky, and the trailer showcases this destructive potential in action as well. The Terminal Attack game mode is slated to be released on May 2 as part of Season 2 of The Finals.
Search and Destroy is one of the most popular competitive FPS modes ever made, and the addition of Terminal Attack brings this greatness to The Finals, albeit with the game's own complexities added into the mix. The tactical, high stakes mode will no doubt be a popular haunt for the most competitive players looking for a proper challenge in The Finals. Moreover, Terminal Attack builds upon the 5v5 mayhem of Power Shift, solidifying the format as a viable option for competitive play within the game.
