Marvel vs. Capcom fans have been pointing out some of the big similarities between Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact and MVC3 and Infinite, which makes sense since they share a developer.
2024 already has a big anime game on the horizon in the form of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, but it's not the only adaptation that has caught everyone's attention. Earlier this year, it was revealed that Eighting, the developers behind Naruto: Clash of Ninja and the modern Marvel vs. Capcom games, was creating a three-versus-three fighter based on Hunter x Hunter.
Just a few days ago, the first gameplay footage of Hunter x Hunter was revealed, which has received a polarising reception depending on how much you care about graphics. Many fans think that it looks like a PS3 game, while hardcore fighting game players have praised how its mechanics look, with some even going hands-on with it and sharing how exciting it is.
Ever since Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact was first announced as a three-versus-three fighter, it's been drawing some inevitable comparisons to Marvel vs. Capcom, one of the genre's most beloved games. This doesn't come as a surprise considering Eighting, the team working on Hunter x Hunter, was also behind Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Infinite.
As it turns out, though, the similarities between Nen Impact and Marvel vs. Capcom go a little deeper than just having the same concept and developer. Many MVC fans pointed out that Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact resembles Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Infinite in a number of ways, from the camera swinging by the characters during the intro to some of the animations being the same.
Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact also uses a mechanic very similar to Marvel vs. Capcom's X-Factor, which is honestly more of a selling point since that was bloody awesome.
If you were wondering if your eyes were playing tricks on you or if there really are similar animations, then Twitter user crofts has put together a comparison video that shows many moments where Hunter x Hunter seems to be using the same animations. The most obvious examples are when characters are hit by certain attacks or roll to get up when knocked down, which ends up looking almost identical to Marvel vs. Capcom.
Although all of the moves that the Hunter x Hunter characters use in the gameplay footage appear to be original, a lot of the hit-reaction animations are copied over from Marvel vs. Capcom. This is sure to get some fans worked up (we all remember the God of War and Zelda conversations), but if it makes Hunter x Hunter play more like one of the best fighting games ever made, we should be all for it.
