Out later this week in Japan, publisher Red Art Games has announced that it’s bringing MACROSS Shooting Insight to PS5 and PS4 in North America and Europe later this year, marking the first time a tie-in based on the 80s anime franchise has officially launched in the West. The game, a multi-dimensional shooter, has been developed by Kaminari Games, who’s perhaps best known for the brilliant Raiden V: Director’s Cut.
The game will be available both digitally and physical on both sides of the pond, although there’s no word on a release date or pre-orders right now. “Additional details, such as release date, special editions, retail prices, and pre-order windows for both digital and physical versions will be shared at a later date,” the press release reveals.
The official blurb for the game explains: “Experience a multi-dimensional shooting game featuring pilots and songstresses that have come together across time. Play as pilots from different time periods and go through stages made up of multiple scenes, with each scene featuring distinct game types that utilise the different modes of each pilot’s Valkyrie. Stages include multiple game styles, such as horizontally scrolling shooting, vertically scrolling shooting, and 360-degree scrolling shooting.”
While there’s no official English trailer just yet, we’ve embedded some gameplay below:

O happy day!
I'm a huge shoot Em up fan and remember playing Macross games very well — my first was on the PC engine, but later there were titles on PS1 and PS3.
I currently have a schmup folder on my PS5 with over 40 titles and love to break out the Nacom fighting stick to play them properly as per the arcade originals.
Needless to say, this title goes straight to my wish list and I'm certain I will enjoy it.
Thanks @Sammy, I might well have missed this one
@Titntin Nice, hope we get a release date soon for you!
Looks good, but still not a patch on the classics. Gotta be thankful this day & age I suppose
Day 1! This had been on my import list for a while. Saves me some money.
I remember Macross from NES. Great game...
Have come across the odd Macross arcade game or two,(& as mentioned Japan only releases like on PS1/Saturn)...but the closest I can recall otherwise was the not half bad Robotech PS2/XB
