Loki season 2 will arrive on Disney Plus a little earlier than anticipated

Loki season 2 scripts were already written when Marvel casting director Sarah Halley Finn saw an early screening of Everything Everywhere All at Oncein 2022. It was March 2022, the movie was just about to go nationwide and take over the film landscape for the next several months, and she was positive they had to snap up Ke Huy Quan. Fast.

Loki season 2 is here, but after a two-year break, the events of Marvel Studios’ Disney Plus debut series may be a little hazy. While the new season of Loki starts with a light recap of season 1 and its big cliffhanger, the frenetic events of season 2’s premiere might throw viewers for a loop. Part of that seems intentional; Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson), and the rest of the TVA seem pretty confused about what’s happening to Loki and the Sacred Timeline in the first episode of Loki season 2.

Loki season 2 starts right in the aftermath of the end of season 1, and there’s not much time to catch up. So if you’re scratching your head to remember what exactly happened with He Who Remains or you’re wondering why no one can remember Loki, then you’re in the right place. When Loki first arrived on Disney Plus, its place in the wider MCU was a little complicated. Covering sacred timelines, branched timelines, and all things multiversal, it was pretty hard to keep track. Luckily, Loki season 2 is a little bit easier to navigate as the spin-off picks up right in the aftermath of that time-bending ending. 

The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues with season 2, a continuation of the MCU Disney+ show that premiered in 2021. Season 1 of this sci-fi show ended with Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) killing a variant of He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors). Loki (Tom Hiddleston) returns to the Time Variance Authority to warn Mobius (Owen Wilson) and Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) about his arrival. However, when they don’t recognize him, Loki discovers a statue of He Who Remains at the center of the TVA. The first four episodes of season 2 pick up right where this story ends, this time with a few new faces and a time-bending journey.

The WGA strike is over, which means TV production is gearing back up again. But new premieres never fully stopped, either; most networks or streaming platforms had some shows already finished and scheduled, so we might not feel the full effects of the work stoppage for a bit. Shows like Family Guy and The Simpsons are still going strong — premiering this week on Fox, but out now on some streaming services — but network TV is offering up some new stuff as well. Take Found, NBC’s procedural about finding missing people, which premieres Oct. 3.
