If you're into gaming history, retro collections, or both, you'll no doubt have checked out Digital Eclipse's awesome docu-games in recent years. The Making of Karateka was the studio's most recent, and the first in its new Gold Master Series — games that double as comprehensive, interactive documentaries. It's just announced the next in this series — Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story.
As the name tells us, this upcoming game focuses its attention on British game designer extraordinaire, Jeff Minter, and his huge catalogue of titles. Stretching back to the very start of his career, the game features four interactive timelines with archival photos, design documents, and more from the man's history.
What's more, there are 42 (forty-two!) playable Jeff Minter games for you to check out as you learn about Llamasoft's legacy. This includes all his best-loved classics like Tempest 2000, one game developed for the unreleased Konix Multi-System, and a reimagined take on Gridrunner.
Here's the full list of playable games in Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story:
Sinclair ZX81
Commodore VIC-20
Commodore 64
Sinclair Spectrum
Atari 8-bit
Konix Multi-System
Atari ST
Atari Jaguar
Reimagined
This looks like it'll be another incredible retro collection from Digital Eclipse, and it'll also go the extra mile with all that documentary footage and historical context. Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story is coming to PS5 and PS4, though doesn't have a date yet. Still, this is a very exciting title if you like psychedelic animals.

Having grown up alongside PlayStation, Stephen has developed an eclectic taste in video games and a wide knowledge of the medium, from small indie gems to the biggest AAA blockbusters. Ever hopeful that the Burnout series makes a miraculous return.
Clearly I have died and gone to retro gaming heaven. Just put my corpse out with the bins on garbage day before it starts to moulder.
Llamatron 2112. Essentially Robotron but with llamas — I'm in!
Llamatron 2112 I remember getting from a magazine cover disk for my ST. Played this for hours. Loved it. I wonder whether they'll leave the «language» in when you die?
YES! I adore Minter’s games, so I’ll be down for this day one. Awesome news!
The C64 games are the selling point for me — takes me back to my teenage formative gaming days
Would be good if they could somehow get the Nuon version of Tempest on there too
These guys really do have a true love for the classics
Well this is an instabuy!!!
I used to have Gridrunner on my Atari 400 back when I was about 9 years old.
This is going to be absolutely top quality — I can't wait and I'm getting all C64 nostalgic just thinking about it.
