Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is going to revolve around the two protagonists we all know and love from the Yakuza series in the form of Ichiban and Kiryu. The latter has been a staple for the series for nearly two decades, and entering the eighth mainline title, fans wonder how old the iconic Yakuza fighter is?

If Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is going to be your entry point into the Like a Dragon series (formerly known as Yakuza), first of all, welcome. You’ll probably have a good time. However, I implore you to consider playing its predecessor, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, before moving on to the newer release. While you could certainly still enjoy Infinite Wealth without playing Like a Dragon, it lays the groundwork to get the most out of the latest entry in one of gaming’s most entertaining franchises, introducing you to delightful characters and a bizarre world where you’ll be asked to save people stranded without toilet paper in public restrooms and fight a tiger with your bare hands. And it’s also on Game Pass, which never hurts.

Yakuza and the Like a Dragon series has, for the most part, always been incredibly welcoming and inclusive, featuring loads of side quests with positive views on a range of sexualities and backgrounds. Longtime series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu is considered a staunch ally, always keen to lift up the marginalized and downtrodden, but we've yet to get any LGBTQ+ representation of note when it comes to protagonists.

The Yakuza / Like a Dragon series has had a wealth of side games, ranging from small side ventures to massive undertakings. Many people have fond memories of managing a rising business or running a cabaret club in previous entries. But Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is going somewhere new with Dondoko Island.

In 2020, the Yakuza series took a bit of a leap with its seventh entry, Yakuza: Like a Dragon. The lens shifted away from longtime series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu to newcomer Kasuga Ichiban, swapping out its real-time action for turn-based RPG combat in the process. It was, by most accounts, a rousing success. But there was still room to grow.

Several outlets went live with final pre-launch previews for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth today, which include new gameplay footage and screenshots.

is the latest mainline entry in the long-running franchise, taking players to the new locale of Hawaii. Developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by SEGA, serves as a sequel to 2020's, bringing back its turn-based combat and protagonist Ichiban Kasuga. attended a special hands-on preview of the game to find out more about what players can expect when it releases later this month.
