There’s just a week until Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 releases on PS5, and that means it’s time to start pre-loading the anticipated exclusive ahead of its launch. Insomniac Games has confirmed on Twitter that those who’ve pre-ordered the title digitally can begin pulling its data now, meaning that it’ll be ready to play on 20th October, which is the title’s release day. The file size weighs in at around 86GB.

Sony is using the opportunity of the PS5’s smaller, slimmer relaunch to stealthily bump the price of the Digital Edition in the United States. While we already know you’ll need to pay extra for a standalone vertical stand, the organisation has also made the decision to hike the overall cost of the non-Blu-ray unit by $50. This means, moving forwards, the disc-less device will increase from an MSRP of $399.99 to $449.99.

Bandai Namco has tapped into the hype surrounding the second season of Spy X Family, releasing the first full gameplay trailer for its upcoming PS5 and PS4 adaptation, Spy x Anya: Operation Memories. The game has Boku No Natsuyasumi vibes to it, as you’ll be accompanying the eponymous pink-haired heroine on holiday with her adopted family, and engaging in various minigames.

Persona 5 Tactica takes the mainline Persona 5 combat and turns it on its head, eschewing the stylish yet traditional JRPG format for crunchier SRPG fare. As we’re all gradually coming to terms with, physical media is on the way out. The video games market is slowly transitioning to digital sales, and the switch has occurred even more abruptly in other industries, where most people prefer to stream movies and music these days. Best Buy, one of the United States’ largest retailers, is allegedly planning to phase out all physical media next year.

Sony’s unexpected, last gasp announcements are continuing in earnest today, with confirmation that the previously announced PS5 cloud streaming is coming as a PS Plus Premium perk later this month. For Sony, this design tweak will streamline its manufacturing process – but for consumers, it’ll also provide flexibility. The remodelled machine will also come in 30 per cent smaller than its predecessor, which is a significant footprint reduction.

UFO Robot Grendizer is a classic sci-fi mecha anime that dates all the way back to the 1970s — and it's being revived as an action game in the very near future. UFO Robot Grendizer: The Feast of the Wolves lands on PS5 and PS4 on the 14th November, and going by its first proper gameplay trailer, it just looks like a damn fun time.

Update: Well, there we go. Microsoft has wasted no time, and has officially concluded the transaction to acquire Activision Blizzard King. The announcement comes via Xbox Wire, where Phil Spencer writes about this historic merger. Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard King, will remain in place for at least the rest of 2023.

There’s a good chance if you were trying to play your PS5 last night, you may have been hit by some server issues. There was a widespread global outage during the middle of the night in the UK, which affected the peak evening window in the United States. All of the issues were resolved within a couple of hours or so, but obviously you wouldn’t have been able to play online-only titles, like the newly released Honkai: Star Rail.
