may be best known for directing classics such as Halloween, The Thing, and Prince of Darkness, but these days, he’s far keener to compose new music, watch basketball, and play video games.
Carpenter doesn’t tweet out too much, but occasionally, we’ll get an insight into what he’s been up to, and in terms of video games, he’s enjoyed all sorts over the years. He’s even helping make one with Saber Interactive called John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando.
But he’s been getting consistent joy with Bethesda’s, the online spinoff to the post-apocalyptic Fallout RPG series. Carpenter has previously mentioned how obsessed he has been with it, and it seems to have stayed with him.
Despite a rough start, the game has recently celebrated its 5th anniversary, and an Atlantic City expansion is set to arrive in a couple of weeks. Carpenter took to social media to show his love for the game and excitement for the upcoming expansion.
I've played FALLOUT 76 on and off for the last 5 years, and I'm here to say it's a great game! Can't wait for Atlantic City!!
Carpenter began getting into games back in the early ’90s with Sonic the Hedgehog, which he initially found difficult to handle, but since then, he’s been fond of the first Jak and Daxter (good taste), Borderlands, Horizon Forbidden West, and Dead Space.
Carpenter enjoys open-world games for their freedom, so, understandably, he’s become smitten with Fallout 76’s ever-evolving world.
Fallout 76’s Atlantic City expansion is out on consoles and PC on December 5, 2023.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the launch of Doom, id Software co-founders John Carmack and John Romero reunited to talk about the legendary FPS. The discussion was moderated by David Craddock (The FPS Documentary, Long Live Mortal Kombat), with interview questions from Craddock and the Twitch chat.
The original DOOM is 30 years old now. That means it has been a little over thirty years since Nintendo turned down Id’s offer to port their games to the PC and began a chain reaction that would result in Carmack, Romero, and co. creating the FPS genre. Thanks, Nintendo!
Alas, The Game Awards has come to an end—and while there've been plenty of exciting trailers and glitzy celeb appearances, it's easy to get numb to the star factor. One returning guest, however, was far more welcome than any Hollywood name-drop: the man, the myth, the legend: Flute Guy.
You almost have to feel bad for Fortnite because they try their best to keep bringing in content and skins that will get players excited, and then, somehow, that content always gets leaked before they can unveil it for themselves. Why did we say we “almost” have to feel bad for them? Simple, they still make a crap ton of money and are likely one of the most profitable games of all time! So yeah, they can afford to have a few things leaked; it won’t hurt them that much. Anyway, another leak has come forth on Twitter, and they have shown fans some of the new skins you’ll be able to get within the game.
After the McCallisters found Kevin again in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, a third installment was released five years later. However, there was no Macaulay Culkin or even the McCallister family in general. Instead, a new character, eight-year-old Alex, was the boy to defend his home from criminals. It’s been 26 years since Home Alone 3 came out, and audiences are still arguing about it.
Mortal Kombat 1: Revenge of the Ninja Mimes.
NetherRealm has released a new trailer for Mortal Kombat 1, offering up some sorcery-infused Quan Chi gameplay and a release date for his arrival in the game. As well as that, this trailer also shows Khameleon in all her lethal glory, and gives us our best look yet at John Cena's Peacemaker in-game.
Apple was recently rumored to have abandoned development work on its in-house 5G modem, which only meant that the Cupertino giant would remain tethered to Qualcomm for years. Fortunately, the company’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies, Johny Srouji, sat down with a reporter in the latest interview and hinted that Apple is deeply invested in mass producing its cellular modem but did not talk about the obvious developmental roadblocks along the way.
Tonight's PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted stream may have been mostly focused on games we already knew about, but there were a couple of surprises hidden away in there, too. One of them was Spine, an upcoming action game that asks the question: what if Sifu also had guns? The new gameplay trailer shows street artist heroine Redline punching, kicking and shooting her way through a cyberpunk-themed world of thugs and armoured guards, and her fancy footwork and the equally agile camera framing looks like it could be quite the combo when it eventually comes out in 2025. Alas, the trailer doesn't give away much else, but I spoke to developers Nekki ahead of tonight's showcase to find more about it, and how it's taking direct inspiration from Sifu and John Wick to become the next big cinematic beat 'em up.
The first look at Prime Video’s Fallout TV series has emerged with Vanity Fair‘s exclusive images.
It’s been a long road back to Hollywood for John Woo. His last American movie was the Ben Affleck-led sci-fi movie Paycheck, a commercial success largely rejected by critics. That was 20 whole years ago. In 2023, though, one of action movies’ greatest minds has returned stateside with Silent Night, a largely dialogue-free revenge thriller that sees the legendary director reinventing his style once again.
