At first glance, our story earlier this week about the imminent RTX 4090 export ban seems like something only China has to worry about. But not so fast. It could have an impact closer to home.

There seems to be a country-wide NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 & RTX 4080 GPU shortage in Japan as reported by ITMedia.
The Japanese outlet reports that the Akihabara marketplace is reporting a developing shortage of high-end NVIDIA GPUs in the retail segment. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPU remains one of the most popular choices for a high-end graphics card and while the demand is at an all-time high, the actual stock is making it difficult to meet that demand.
All models of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPUs are expected, even the MSRP variants which cost around 250,000 Yen or $1670 US. Shop owners are also speculating that this might be a worldwide shortage and not just specific to the Japanese market but we have checked other US/EU-based tech retailers and the RTX 4090 GPUs are available though some shops have more 4090 models on sale than others.
"There's been a lot of demand for the RTX 4090, but it's becoming a little difficult to get it in stock.''
"There's a long backorder for cheaper models in the 250,000 yen range."
"It seems like there is a worldwide supply shortage. This may be due to reflection on the RTX 3000 family and to avoid overstocking the market."

NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4080 GPUs are also running low in quantities which is despite the card not being a great option for gamers in terms of value for money. In the Japanese market, people who are looking for a high-end card are reportedly going for the 4070 Ti with the more ultra-high-end users investing in the RTX 4090. The problem is the price difference between the 4080 and 4090 is too close while the performance difference is quite big.
It could be likely that the Asian markets may be the first to be hit with this wave of shortages since NVIDIA has been working with TSMC to allocate more manufacturing resources towards its AI GPU family which is hot in demand right now. The other possibility is that NVIDIA wants to virtually stagnate its lineup so that its retail partners don't have to experience yet another "overstocking" issue as we saw with the older GeForce RTX 30 GPUs. But in all of this, despite the shortages, the prices are stable and still hitting below MSRP and that trend is seen across the globe.

The release date for the slimmer and lighter mid-gen refresh of the PS5 has seemingly leaked online, alongside details about its first bundle. As per reliable tipster Billbil-kun — notorious for accurately leaking monthly PS Plus games ahead of time — the new PlayStation consoles with smaller form factor will go on sale November 10 in the US before spreading out to other regions; both disc and digital versions. A bit before that, on November 8, Sony would be bundling it with the newly launched Marvel's Spider-Man 2 at $559.99, which is the same amount as the existing standard edition bundle. While not explicitly mentioned, the content should be the same, with a digital voucher for the game, alongside a themed controller.
