There used to be a time when celebrities rarely, if ever, admitted that they played video games or things like Dungeons & Dragons. But now, it can be a badge of honor, and many people flaunt their gaming experiences, whether it be virtual or tabletop, so that their fans know it’s cool to be at a certain level in the gaming world. That brings us to a very special challenge laid out by MMA superstar Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, who is the current ONE Flyweight Champion, against AEW wrestler Kenny Omega, with the “challenge” being Street Fighter 6. Yes, this is real.
For those who don’t understand what’s happening here, Johnson is apparently an avid Street Fighter 6 player, and when being interviewed about it, Kenny Omega was brought up. Not only is Omega arguably the best wrestler in the world, but he’s an avid Street Fighter player and is considered one of the best in the franchise. He’s even gone up against other wrestlers who were avid gamers and showed them just how good he was. So famous was he for his play in that series that Capcom brought him in for the 5th entry to do a special live-action trailer for Mayor Cody Travers.
While it’s true that Omega has never done world tournaments for the series, most agree that he’s pretty good. He even recently posted a 9-win streak while in master rank within the newest title, and yet Johnson feels he can take him on:
Hey @KennyOmegamanX, I hear you're pretty good at Street Fighter. How about you put your money where your mouth is and face ME at @AEW WrestleDream in my hometown of Seattle in a 1 v 1 battle in Street Fighter 6!
Loser donates to the charity of the winner's choosing. You game? pic.twitter.com/T2j10ShIiA
He even challenged Omega to the upcoming AEW event WrestleDream, which will be at Johnson’s hometown of Seattle, Washington. That would make it a pretty nice “battleground” for them to fight on, no? The deal is that the loser donates the money to the charity of the winner’s choice. Very respectful.
Naturally, Kenny Omega didn’t take this lying down and responded to it on Twitter:
Anyone’s free to insult my wrestling ability but this cockamamie idea that you’re better at Street Fighter than me?! That makes it personal. For charity, I’ll do it – Heck, I can even put you in touch with @AustinCreedWins . You guys can bond over being losers, etc. https://t.co/meWcHtrb5H
So, for those who don’t get that Austin Creed reference, he, too, is a wrestler and a big fan of Capcom’s franchise. He and Kenny Omega went at it at E3 once with pride on the line, and in an epic 5-match series, Kenny Omega won. But Creed did make a reply against Kenny, saying that he “got lucky” and challenged him to a rematch, but this time in Tekken.
Either way, should this
Capcom’s Street Fighter 6 has a new addition to the roster. The game’s second DLC character, A.K.I., is now available, both standalone and in the Year 1 Character Pass. Check out her launch trailer below.
Street Fighter 6 has officially received its next DLC fighter as A.K.I. is officially available today. This is for all platforms as the new character can also be located in World Tour by exploration and can equip the character’s moves in Battle Hub. The 20th Master is also available in the standard Fighting Ground mode, adding to Rashid to help create more versatility on the character roster. Players can unlock A.K.I. by owning or purchasing the Street Fighter 6 Deluxe Edition, Ultimate Edition, Year 1 Character/Ultimate Pass, or purchase individually for 350 Fighter Coins. This will include her Outfit 1 and Colors 1 & 2.
When it launched earlier in the year, Exoprimal showed flashes of brilliance even with its considerable issues, and Capcom has continued to support the multiplayer shooter with additional content since then to further build its player base, including a new mode, new Exosuit variants, and more. And less than a month from now, players will get access to more in that pipeline.
Mortal Kombat 1 is upon us, and the iconic fighting game series comes full circle and restarts the timeline, adjusting what we knew about all of the Mortal Kombat 1 characters. While we rethink what we knew about the series with Mortal Kombat 1, co-creator and director Ed Boon has talked about the reboot in the context of both Tekken and Street Fighter’s return, and how he felt when Jean-Claude Van Damme went to do the latter’s less-than-favorable ‘90s movie instead of his own videogame.
Capcom will release the second DLC fighter for Street Fighter 6, A.K.I., next week. While we’ve seen some of her combos, a new Character Guide video (which also appears in-game) has been released, providing more in-depth information. Check it out below.
Cooler Master and Capcom have teamed up to celebrate the sixth and latest installment of the Street Fighter fighting game series, Street Fighter 6, with a brand-new PC hardware range. Whether you’re a casual fan, or a hardened fighting game expert, this Street Fighter 6 PC hardware range will be the perfect addition to any Capcom or Street Fighter fan’s PC gaming setup.
Street Fighter 6 has been out for over three months now, and it continues to be a big hit with fans. The game was met with critical praise, too, and the sales have been just as good. With the launch behind them, Capcom has been focused on bringing in new characters via its DLC pass. We already had one character release, and now, players are gearing up for the second arrival. That “arrival” is none other than A.K.I., one of the strangest characters in the franchise’s history. Even so, Capcom has dropped a new gameplay preview of the poison-themed character going up against Chun-Li.
A.K.I., the latest DLC character to join Street Fighter 6 as part of the Year 1 Character Pass, arrives in about two weeks. Nevertheless, Capcom has a short new gameplay preview, showcasing some of her moves and combos. Check it out below.
It’s no secret Mortal Kombat‘s Johnny Cage was based on action legend Jean-Claude Van Damme. The franchise would have looked mighty different had Midway managed to cut a deal to use JCVD’s likeness in the video game and make him the central piece of Van Damme; however, this never happened, and the Muscles from Brussels actually jumped over to the world of Street Fighter a few years later.
The star of Bloodsport assumes the role of Johnny Cage in MK1.
Street Fighter 6’s first Character Pass is coming quicker than we initially anticipated, with the oddball A.K.I. arriving as early as 27th September. Capcom fully detailed the character with a huge trailer and PlayStation Blog post overnight, confirming that the slithery individual is able to inject poison into enemies who dare to stand too close to her. Consider her a new type of Poison, then, eh?
Capcom’s next DLC fighter for Street Fighter 6, the poisonous A.K.I., arrives later this month. In the meantime, a new trailer is available showcasing the cosmetics and rewards players can earn in her upcoming “A.K.I. Arrives!” Fighting Pass. Check it out below.
