Apple recently released iOS 17.2.1 with major bug fixes for the iPhone. The update fixed a significant battery drain issue plaguing iPhone users for a while. While the update reportedly fixed the battery issues, some users still face them. Additionally, the latest iOS 17.2.1 update broke the iPhone's cellular connectivity as users can not connect to their wireless network providers. The issue has been present on various iPhone models, and Apple has yet to issue a fix.
Apple released iOS 17.2.1, with the release notes mentioning that the update features "important bug fixes." However, in China and Japan, the release notes for the same update said that the update "addresses an issue that can cause the battery to drain faster." Since the update features the same build number, we presumed that iOS 17.2.1 has fixed battery issues across the globe. However, it appears that this might not be the case. Additionally, it is now being reported that iOS 17.2.1 houses an issue that causes the iPhone to not connect to cellular network providers, ultimately breaking connectivity.
The issue was reported on Apple's Support Community Discussions (via BGR), highlighting that the cellular connectivity issues on the iPhone emerged after updating to iOS 17.2.1. A user wrote:
"After updating my iPhone last night to iOS 17.2.1, I can no longer connect to my network provider. Tried the resets, and still does not work! Vert frustrating. Trusted Apple and iPhone for years, now not so sure."
If you encounter the same cellular connectivity issues after updating to iOS 17.2.1, you can try resetting your network settings from the Settings app. The publication also notes that the iPhone 15 models suffer from thermal issues. Apple fixed overheating problems on the iPhone 15 Pro models with its iOS 17.0.3 update. iOS 17 featured a boatload of bugs at launch, and Apple is still working to fix them almost three months after the initial release. The company even stopped working on next year's iOS 18 update for a while to fix existing updates. It appears that the company will fix issues in iOS 17.2.1 with its forthcoming iOS 17.3 update, which currently rests in the beta phase.
iOS 17.3 will be potentially released in January with significant bug fixes and performance enhancements while introducing new features. Apple has not acknowledged the issue, and what is causing the cellular connectivity issues in iOS 17.2.1 remains to be seen. For now, you can check out how to fix network issues in iOS 17 in our detailed guide. After the holidays, Apple will resume beta updates for iOS 17.3, so stick around for more details.

Apple iPhone dethroned Samsung Electronics Co. devices to become the best-selling smartphone series over the course of 2023, the first time South Korea's largest company has lost the top spot since 2010. The iPhone accounted for a fifth of the global market with close to 235 million shipments last year, research firm IDC estimates. Samsung, whose shipments slumped double-digits to 226.6 million, came in second, ahead of Chinese device makers like Xiaomi Corp. While Apple has dominated the holiday quarter in recent years, its surge ahead of Samsung over a full year is unprecedented and suggests Apple is weathering an industrywide slump better than rivals.
