Invincible fans really aren't happy about one of Omni-Man's interactions with Sindel in Mortal Kombat 1 where he says that he's going to turn her, Mileena, and Kitana into his "pets".
After months of waiting, Invincible's Omni-Man has finally joined Mortal Kombat 1 as the first fighter from the new Kombat Pack, with Homelander, Takeda, Quan-Chi, and Ermac all following over the next year. Although the return of J.K. Simmons as Nolan should be a reason for Invincible fans to celebrate, it seems that some aren't happy with how he's been characterised.
We might have only just gotten Omni-Man added to Mortal Kombat 1, but we already know when to expect the rest of the Kombat Pack thanks to some release windows shared by Warner Bros. last month.
Although most of Omni-Man's interactions with the Mortal Kombat crew have him acting like he does in the show and showing his Viltrumite pride above anything else, there's one in particular that has upset fans. If you fight Sindel as Omni-Man, one of the interactions between the two has him offering to turn her, Kitana, and Mileena into his "pets" if they surrender, something that she obviously doesn't react well to.
This is clearly meant to be a reference to a scene in the episode of the show's first season, where Mark goes up against Omni-Man and he claims that he saw his mother as more of a "pet" than a person. In the canon of the show and comic, this is just Nolan trying to convince himself that he doesn't love his wife and son and that's loyal to Viltrum above all, but the use of the phrase in Mortal Kombat 1 makes it seem like he's some kind of weirdo collecting women from the planets he conquers.
Invincible fans noticed the strange interaction back when Omni-Man's voice lines were datamined from the game, and now that it's proven to be real and not just some kind of draft, they're not very happy about it. Twitter user Bloodrising shared the interaction with the caption, "it's real...". Tons of Invincible fans then flooded the comments and retweets of that post to point out that it's ont
One Twitter user, 7Spideycomics, said, "You MK fans who haven’t watched Invincible should know that this is extremely out of character for Nolan and that he would never really say it like that just cause he said that to Debbie ONCE", while F_UT_U_RE said, "Ok never mind you can tell NetherRealm didn’t actually read invincible and just watched the show f--k sake".
So far, that interaction with Sindel is the only one that's really riled fans up for its portrayal of Omni-Man, but it does seem like a pretty loose grasp of his character compared to the show and comics. It seems like it's really just there for an easter egg, but that isn't stopping fans from being annoyed about
