Dragon’s Dogma 2 launched with some technical and monetization-related issues, but the open world action RPG has enjoyed widespread critical and commercial success in the immediate aftermath of its release nonetheless. Capcom has, meanwhile, also been working on ironing out its technical issues, having released a patch a couple of weeks ago that added a 30 FPS cap option, toggles for ray tracing and motion blur, and more.

It's truly the end of an era for Nintendo fans, as online services for 3DS and Wii U have finally shut down. With it, we say goodbye to online multiplayer for the likes of Splatoon, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Pokemon X and Y, and Xenoblade Chronicles X, with everything shutting off for good at 5pm PT/8pm ET yesterday (or 1am GMT this morning for UK folks).

Xbox has partnered with the UK Interactive Entertainment (Ukie) trade association’s Digital Schoolhouse initiative in order to release a series of Xbox Field Trips, educational podcasts based on popular Xbox Game Pass titles including Sea of Thieves and Minecraft.

Dragon’s Dogma 2’s post-launch addition of microtransactions vexed a fair few people, but in spite of backlash from the community, the open world action RPG has got off to an impressive start. In addition to widespread acclaim, it has also seen sales in impressive numbers right out the gate.

It sounds like Dragon's Dogma 2 and Rise of the Ronin — both released on Friday of last week — have struggled to make an immediate impact in the UK. While we don't have the full sales charts just yet, GamesIndustry.biz's ever-knowledgeable Christopher Dring has outlined the relative success of the new releases, and it's fair to say that neither game has done well. At least, not at retail.

SEGA has sold off primarily PC-based strategy game developer Relic Entertainment, and is in the process of cutting up to 240 jobs across its various UK studios. Relic, which makes the Company of War games, will become an independent studio moving forwards, and said in a short statement that it remains on good terms with its former parent company.

The wait for Dragon’s Dogma 2 stretched on for well over a decade, and launching on the back off massive amounts of hype and excitement, the open world action RPG has got off to an impressive start, in spite of early backlash against its monetization and performance woes. Not only has the game enjoyed widespread acclaim, it’s also seen solid sales right out the gate.

Dragon's Dogma 2 only launched a few days ago, and yet CAPCOM has already sent out a survey to players asking whether they'd be interested in purchasing DLC.
