Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski has shared his thoughts on the rumored next entry in the franchise, suggesting that he would be open to returning to the series. First debuting on the Xbox 360 in 2006, the science-fiction shooter franchise would become one of Xbox's most popular first-party franchises. The first three games were all developed by eventual Fortnite creator Epic Games, with in-house Xbox studio The Coalition taking over the franchise starting with Gears 4. Now, Gears of War's original creator is still interested in helping with the franchise's future.

Cities: Skylines II developer Colossal Order has a uniquely close relationship with its community. The original Cities: Skylines came out in 2015 and gobbled up the audience that was left behind by EA’s SimCity, which came out in 2013 and was a busted mess. Cities: Skylines scratched that urban-planning itch, plus it cost just $30. The game came first to PC, Mac and Linux with modest hardware requirements, and it hit consoles within two years. Critically, Cities: Skylines also supported mods through the Steam Workshop, allowing players to add their own tools to the game and share those features with others.

Ubisoft's director of subscriptions Philippe Tremblay has said that for all the growth of videogame subscription services in the past few years, players are still accustomed to "having and owning their games". Artificial intelligence lab OpenAI published a blog post Monday seeking to address fears that its technology will meddle with elections, as more than a third of the globe prepares to head to the polls this year. The use of AI to interfere with election integrity has been a concern since the Microsoft-backed company released two products: ChatGPT, which can mimic human writing convincingly, and DALL-E, whose technology can be used to create "deepfakes," or realistic-looking images that are fabricated. Those worried include OpenAI's own CEO Sam Altman, who testified in Congress in May that he was "nervous" about generative AI's ability to compromise election integrity through "one-on-one interactive disinformation."

In yet another blow to industry workers, Embracer Group has announced more layoffs at Lost Boys Interactive, a subsidiary of Gearbox Software. Lost Boys Interactive provided support work on the Borderlands spin-off Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, but the studio is now facing the ax with multiple departments set to lose staff.
