Hunt: Showdown is getting a native PS5 version in April 2024, developer Crytek has announced, along with an engine upgrade in line with the next CryEngine update. These technical ambitions and more were revealed in a lengthy roadmap video outlining the changes to come, which includes the cessation of support for the PS4 iteration of the game. Previously, a 60 frames-per-second patch was released for PS4; this new version would allow 4K visuals, along with enhanced controller support and input upgrades.
David Fifield, general manager of the Hunt franchise, citing internal statistics and speaking about the community at large, says these changes should affect less than 10% of active users while enhancing the experience of the other 90%. A free upgrade path will be provided for PS4 players to the PS5 version, but by April 2024, support for the game will cease on the previous platform.
We thought the game was pretty great back at launch, admittedly back in February of 2020. Have you been playing on PS4 in recent days? Are you looking forward to a fresh start on PS5? Let us know in the comments section below.
Khayl Adam is the second best video game journalist Australia has ever produced, and his ambitions of world domination have (thus far) been curbed by the twin siren songs of strategy games and CRPGs. He has always felt an affinity for the noble dachshund, the best kind of dog.
I've been playing this game since 2020 and it has been a journey seeing this game evolve from its very first event to the Rotjaw event today. This game has had such an addictive game loop like no other and hasn't gotten old yet unlike Destiny.
I've been saying for years that this is the best FPS game on the market, and it's about to get even better. This game is brilliant and there have been a lot of improvements since its initial PS4 release. There is also the new event which starts this week, adding some new weapons, which is awesome!
EDIT: Also, David Fifield has a tremendous beard.
If you haven't played this then I urge you to give it a go. Brilliant gameplay, atmosphere and mechanics. Yes it's a live service game but that really doesn't make any difference to the game, you can spend absolutely nothing after the initial purchase and still have a great time.
I found the learning curve really difficult on this. The menus are a bloody maze as well. I like the thought of it and the theme is right up my street but I found I was getting absolutely rinsed when playing against people.
@Boucho11 When did you last play it? They have UI changes coming with the PS5 version so it'll be more navigable.
I'll admit it is a bit of a hard game to get into. Even after 500 hours I oftentimes miss the simplest of shots, but it's a really fun game
