Hundreds of GeForce RTX 4090 GPUs With Burnt Connectors Are Still Being Sent To Repair Shop For Fix

The 12VHPWR Connector Is Still Haunting GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Users To This Day

Despite more than a year of being in global markets, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPUs are still susceptible to "troublesome" 12VHPWR connector melting/burning issues.

While we do believe that the problem will be over soon due to the connector revision policy, older units have been a huge issue, both for the manufacturer and even repair firms like Northridge Fix. NVIDIA and its partners have moved to the newer 12V-2x6 standard for the GeForce RTX 40 "SUPER" series while the older RTX 40 graphics cards are also using the revised connectors which are less prone to these issues as they have shorter sense pins which limit the flow of extra power when the cable isn't fully inserted.

The repair shop discloses that, to this date, he still receives around 200 GeForce RTX 4090 GPUs with burnt connectors to be replaced monthly, and the situation has become much more common, which is indeed something to worry about.

Northridge Fix also commented about the CableMod fiasco, claiming that while the design did look flawless, it was built upon the wrong foundations, indirectly criticizing the 12VHPWR standard itself. While CableMod has issued recalls for all 12VHPWR angled connectors in the market, offering a full refund, the damage has already been done, and it's very unfortunate for new consumers to be experiencing such an issue, especially when you consider that most of the affected units are not even a year old.

Well, if you are a user of either the 12VHPWR connector or a CableMod consumer, we suggest you adhere to official guidelines, whether the connecting or refund process. There aren't any viable options in the market right now when it comes to third-party connectors, so we urge readers to follow the proper steps when connecting their GPUs, especially high-end models such as the RTX 4090.
