For two years, Huawei had been funding U.S. research and awarded scientists millions in prize money. All of the funneling was handled by Optica Foundation, with its CEO Elizabeth Rogan, who previously stated that there was nothing unusual about this practice. U.S. lawmakers later criticized the organization, believing Optica Foundation had compromised the ability of U.S. research institutions to comply with the law. A ton of events likely happened under our noses because the partnership between the two companies has now ended.
Optica Foundation wrote to the board of directors that Huawei will have no connection to its funding program in the future
In addition to cutting ties with Huawei, Rogan says that all of the funds donated by the Chinese firm for 2024 and the two years prior will be returned, ending what could have been a fruitful business alliance. According to Bloomberg, Rogan wrote the following in a letter to the Optica Board of Directors:

On the previous occasion, Rogan sided with Huawei, and has also stated that the Optica Foundation’s Board was well aware of the company’s involvement with an entity that was on the U.S. export control list. A Huawei spokesperson previously attempted to allay all security concerns, saying that the reason why the former Chinese giant’s name was kept private was because it wanted to prevent the competition from being viewed as a promotional event.
It is likely that Optica Foundations’ Chief Executive was subjected to immense pressure from the U.S. authorities to sever any connection with Huawei. Rogan had earlier mentioned that some donors preferred to remain anonymous, and there was nothing illegal about partnering with an overseas organization. Unfortunately, when word broke out about this alliance, it traveled fast enough that it reached the Biden administration’s ears in little time, and they did quick work to ensure that both parties had a falling out.

Apart from introducing its Mate 70 flagship smartphone series later in the year, Huawei is said to launch HarmonyOS NEXT, its actual in-house operating system, which will give the former Chinese giant the freedom to rid itself of Google’s Android and the looming threat of the U.S. However, to sever any linkage with foreign entities, Huawei is said to remove all source code from HarmonyOS NEXT, including Linux and Android.
The tri-fold form factor is unusual for smartphones, but it can deliver immense utility if the software is optimized and the hardware can keep pace with it. Huawei has been rumored to be working on such a device, but it has likely run into development issues stemming from the advanced form factor, with problems such as software and possibly a lack of an effective cooling solution causing a delay.

Having made new allies in The War Within, it appears that several Earthen NPCs have moved into the capital cities of the old world! Currently residing in Ironforge, Stormwind, and Orgrimmar, the Earthen have several interesting bits of dialogue, wondering at the marvels of our world and sharing their insights. In Stormwind, we can see the Earthen representatives relaxing in the «public baths» and enjoying story time. Courtesy of TheRedShirtGuy on Twitter. While in Orgrimmar, the Earthen discuss ideas for a shipyard expansion with what appears to be a relative of Goraluk Anvilcrack from Blackrock Foundry. Also courtesy of TheRedShirtGuy on Twitter. In the lead-up to Gears of War: E-Day’s recent announcement, there were some rumblings about the technical leaps that developer The Coalition was looking to make with the game, having shifted to Unreal Engine 5 for the newest entry’s development. And though the game’s announcement trailer didn’t show any gameplay, it was rendered entirely in-engine by Blur Studios using in-game assets provided by The Coalition, and it looked quite impressive.
The Kirin 9000S is considered by the industry to be a semiconductor miracle, as Huawei had to deal with overwhelming odds, thanks to the U.S. sanctions, just to mass produce a chipset last year. Now that the former Chinese giant has successfully displayed its chip-making prowess, the next step is to switch to advanced manufacturing processes to ensure that it maintains some pace with the competition. Unfortunately, in its reported quest to acquire TSMC’s 3.5nm chip shipments, a Huawei executive has expressed disappointment that the attempt has been unsuccessful due to the same trade ban.
