Several recipes use Nails as a major ingredient for convenient structures around your base. Exchanging the right goods harvested from the world for this resource will help you create a better home for your character as your journey continues.
Depending on which skills you unlock in , you may be able to destroy furniture with different weapons or tools. Nails are sometimes dropped from a broken workbench, table, or some other type of structure found on your map. Look for places like Scavenger campsites to find an abundant collection of furniture ready to be dismantled into the material you want.
The best way to get nails is from the Blacksmith NPC you free during the main story quest. This mission sees your character traverse a dangerous dungeon in search of this captured vendor in. Freeing the captive from a sleeping pod deep within a Vault's catacombs will allow you to call him to your base using the Summoning Staff item.
The Blacksmith sells 2 Nails for 1 Metal Scrap in , which should give you a generous amount of the material whenever you buy it. Metal Scrap is easy enough to find, either on Scavenger enemies or from breaking objects in the world like the furniture mentioned earlier. Abandoned villages and other settlements you find should have an abundant amount of scraps to farm in large numbers.
Another great location to farm Metal Scrap is the Cinder Valut, or the first area your character spawns in when you start. You may need a Pickaxe to break metallic objects in the Vault to collect the scraps you find.
Important survival items like Storage Chests are made using nails, but you could also make tools like the Spiked Club with this material. As you may expect from the Scavenger campsites, plenty of furniture requires nails as a primary ingredient. Crafting cosmetic items for your home base allows you to not just survive, but thrive in the dangerous world of .
It is recommended that you build items that offer convenience, or allow you to reach new areas you couldn't explore before. For example, the Spiked Club lets you take down enemies within the mist-like Shroud that threatens to kill your character if they stay in it for too long. Getting nails for an item like the Club in is a better use of the material than a nice chair for your home's interior decorating.
