Helldivers 2 players started a petition calling on developer Arrowhead Game Studios to rehire community manager Spitz. With the recent PlayStation Network account-linking controversy finally at an end, much of the Helldivers 2 community has begun to shift focus back to the Galactic War. However, some fans were still dismayed upon hearing of the recent dismissal of Spitz from the official Discord channel and are doing all they can to gather their fellow players in support of the former community manager.
For context, Spitz was one of the community managers for the Helldivers 2 Discord channel, who became a controversial figure in the days following the account-linking update announcement. Many players slammed Spitz after he made several comments that they believed disparaged the fans outraged by the PSN account requirement. However, some users forgave the former community manager after he posted a public apology and encouraged PC players to flood the Helldivers 2 Steam page with negative reviews in the hopes of convincing publisher Sony to retract the requirement. While his advice was arguably intended to help the community channel their feedback, it also reportedly led to his involuntary termination.
Now, some Helldivers 2 players are calling for his reinstatement with a petition on change.org. Nicknaming themselves «Spitz's Roughnecks,» these users believed the eponymous Spitz had done enough to redeem himself. The petition itself specifically called for Arrowhead Game Studios to bring back Spitz as a community manager for the official Discord channel, claiming that Spitz's suggestion was one of the reasons why so many of them did not refund the game and that he additionally deserved the honor of being canonized in Helldivers 2 lore as «General Spitz.»
At the time of writing, the petition boasts over 3,600 signatures since it was opened. While it's far from equalling the entirety of the devoted Helldivers 2 player base, the petition has notably only been active for a day, and more divers are signing on. It was additionally shared on the official Discord channel amid cries from users to «free Spitz.»
While Sony backtracked on Helldivers 2's account-linking update, there are still lingering tensions from the incident. Notably, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt previously expressed how the controversy had deeply affected him and his team, and how its eventual resolution was a welcome relief. There are also players still wondering if Helldivers 2 will return to the dozens of countries where it was delisted from Steam, though reports from other users indicated that the title has already returned to some territories.

If history has taught us anything, it's that when faced with tyranny, lovers of both Liberty and Democracy will fight in their defence to the last round of ammunition, the final drop of blood. In a bombshell development, it looks like developer Arrowhead may have a revolution on its hands, as outraged Helldivers 2 players who defended the developer just days ago rise up. They demand justice (and official canonisation into in-game lore) for the undemocratically dismissed community manager, now dubbed «General» Spitz.
When they’re not banding together to take on Sony or attempting to reinstate fired community managers, it turns out that Helldivers 2 players just want to make sure everyone feels included. Included in the co-op game’s endless war of attrition to protect Super Earth from bugs, robots, and basic awareness of military propaganda, and included in just having mates. Enter player ‘dremskiy’, whose tragic booting from a private game in which they just wanted to make friends has resulted in so many friend requests that their Steam account won’t accept any more.
The CEO of Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios, Johan Pilestedt, has said that he wants the game to go on "forever", even when the team eventually stops working on new updates.

A new Helldivers 2 patch is here and will hopefully put the whole PlayStation Network account linking debacle to bed once and for all, as it's now been added as an explicitly "optional" setting.
Helldivers 2 lead Johan Pilestedt has given us our first look at an upcoming cape - one which references the most controversial moment in the game's short history. As we can see in the screenshot, the red lines on the cape mirror the review bombing Helldivers 2 received on Steam last week, as thousands of players hit the game with negative ratings.
A former Helldivers 2 lead writer has praised the shooter's community for uniting against the recent PSN mandate.
Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has released the Polar Patriots Premium Warbond as planned after the boss of the studio polled fans on whether it should go ahead so soon after what he called “negative sentiment” over the game’s PlayStation Network account linking.
Helldivers 2 Director Johan Pilestedt wants gamers to decide when the next paid Warbond will arrive. Helldivers 2 has been the source of heated discussion in recent weeks, as it is at the center of Sony's controversial decision to have PC players link their accounts to the PlayStation Network. The wave of negative reception surrounding recent Helldivers 2 news has been a shock to many gamers because of just how popular Helldivers 2 has become in such a short time. Releasing in February 2024, Helldivers 2 is now Sony's 7th highest grossing game of all time.
Helldivers 2 Community Manager 'Spitz' is seemingly no longer with Arrowhead Game Studios following outings he did over the now-canceled mandatory PSN account linking update.
Fans of Helldivers 2 have started a petition asking developers Arrowhead to reinstate a fired employee in charge of community management. The employee, "Spitz", was let go following the fiasco in which Sony told PC players they would need to link their Steam and PlayStation Network accounts to continue playing the shooter. Sony and Arrowhead changed their mind about that after player backlash in the form of 100,000+ negative reviews on Steam. The kicker? Community manager "Spitz" was low-key encouraging players to continue the review bombing. This doesn't seem to have gone down well internally.
