We know that the Illuminate will join the galactic war in Helldivers 2, but we don't know when or why. However, leakers have just uncovered a shot of an exploding planet, which some claim will be the catalyst for the Illuminate's arrival.
Spoilers for Helldivers 2 follow.
Dataminer IronS1ghts revealed the exploding planet on the dedicated leaks subreddit. Supposedly, it's Meridia, one of the Terminid worlds which recently became a super colony. That means the bugs are rapidly mutating and breeding at such a pace that sending soldiers to fend them off is no longer a feasible way to deal with the threat, hence the worldwide annihilation.
IronS1ghts also leaked a "Dark Fluid Containment Device" which is a key part of the "Dark Fluid Research Station" objective. This will likely be pivotal to the Major Order in which we will destroy Meridia - some fans even theorise that we will create a black hole with this fluid to consume the planet.
So far, we've only fought the Automatons and Terminid in Helldivers 2, the former a new faction created by the original games' Cyborgs. But there is another species we've yet to face - the Illuminate.
They call themselves the Squi'th, a highly advanced aquatic species that wears ceremonial robes and is protected by blue energy shields. Some players have seen their weapons in action already, and there have even been sightings of ominous cloaked warships far larger than ours lying in the atmosphere of Automaton planets, so the Illuminate are likely observing us right now.
When they eventually join the war, they will likely attack from the south, a part of the map that is suspiciously empty right now.
Perhaps they're watching to see how strong we are, and when they discover that we have weapons capable of wiping out entire planets, they'll deem us too powerful to leave unchecked. Hopefully, we won't find out too soon.
Helldivers 2 is the sequel to the third-person shooter from Arrowhead Game Studios. This time out, the Helldivers are deep in the Galactic War, and it's up to you to bring Managed Democracy to the masses.

Last week, Helldivers 2 players were given a Major Order to kill a staggering two billion bots, and expectedly, they failed. On the surface, that means they didn't unlock the Anti-Tank Mines, but community manager Katherine 'Baskinator' Baskin revealed that there are much worse ramifications unfolding behind the scenes.
Helldivers 2’s ongoing meta-narrative took another twist this week after players failed the last Major Order and thus failed to unlock a promised new Stratagem.

I regret to inform you that, despite the best efforts of Helldivers everywhere, the Terminid threat is back and nastier than ever. I’m starting to think that Super Earth command may not know exactly what they’re doing – but, of course, I would never linger on such undemocratic thoughts.
A new major order in Helldivers 2 has just been announced, and it forces players to make a choice between liberating Choohe or Penta from the Automaton threat. This announcement follows the previous one, which garnered a lot of attention in the Helldivers 2 community, and fans discerned it to be the new Helldivers 2 stratagems teaser.
Helldivers 2 players are celebrating a dramatic 11th-hour victory that saw hundreds of thousands of the digital soldiers unite to defend 10 worlds from the undemocratic grip of advancing bug-like Terminids, and soulless Automatons. However, some members of the community have found themselves wondering whether Arrowhead’s game master Joel may have stacked the odds in their favor to stave off defeat.
took the gaming industry by storm back in February 2024, quickly gaining a dedicated fanbase and community around the live-service title. Although it still boasts an impressive player base, a couple of months later, the numbers have begun to dwindle from the initial highs that it once enjoyed. This is to be expected with any title since the gaming industry moves on quickly, and games cannot be expected to hold onto unsustainable numbers, but there is something can do to stem the bleeding.
The soldiers of Super Earth have made major progress in the ongoing Helldivers 2 Galactic War by successfully defending a large number of planets from enemy assault. The feat hasn't been accomplished by the game's community since Helldivers 2 first launched in February 2024.
