Helldivers 2 is now PlayStation's biggest Steam launch ever

It's a tale as old as time: when a great, popular game rises to the top of the Steam charts, scammers and chancers will do everything in their power to steal some of that glory for themselves. The latest victim is Helldivers 2, with scammers putting up two separate fake pages for it on Steam over the last 24 hours. Each page listed Arrowhead as the developer, and PlayStation as the publisher, along with big discounts of 50-75% off to tempt players into buying the cheap version instead of the real one.

Taking the reigns from Palworld, Helldivers 2 has become the latest surprise hit of 2024. As hundreds of thousands of people have flocked to play Arrowhead's latest game, the studio has been doing all it can to cope with the unexpected influx of players. Now the server capacity has been upped and wait times reduced, even more people might be convinced to join the battle to save Super Earth. If that sounds a lot like what you're planning to do this weekend, make sure you don't fall for the Helldivers scams cropping up on Steam.

Apple has launched a new app tailored for sports enthusiasts, appropriately named Apple Sports. A demo for tactical RPG Unicorn Overlord is now available for Switch, and will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PlayStation 4 on February 23 at midnight local time, publisher ATLUS and developer Vanillaware announced. Save data from the demo can be carried over to the full game when it launches.

As the rumors claimed, Tango Gameworks’ Hi-Fi Rush is coming to PS5 on March 18th. Interestingly, the announcement trailer came from Bethesda’s Latin America YouTube channel and has since gone private. Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead says it has had to «cap» concurrent players to around 450,000 to «further improve server stability».

Waves of players are attempting to spread democracy and bash robots in co-op shooter Helldivers 2, catapulting the game to record-breaking success, as the sequel has now passed the concurrent PC player peaks of the biggest PlayStation or Xbox-owned releases.

Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has apologised for ongoing server «capacity issues» and says it is working to «increase server capacity to accommodate all».

Helldivers 2 is off to a record-breaking start on Steam, with the game’s concurrent player count now eclipsing that of all other PlayStation PC ports combined.
