The CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios and creative director of Helldivers 2, Johan Pilestedt, took to Twitter to quash rumors circulating about the game's acquisition by PlayStation. Speculation had arisen regarding Sony's potential acquisition of Arrowhead Game Studios, which would include Helldivers 2 in its roster of titles.
Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and distributed by Sony Interactive Entertainment, emerges as a third-person shooter sequel to the 2015 Helldivers. After launching in February 2024 for PlayStation 5 and Windows platforms, Helldivers 2 swiftly earned acclaim and sold a million copies within its initial three days. Situated a century post the inaugural game, Helldivers 2 thrusts players into Super Earth's struggle against rebellious Terminids and mechanized foes known as Automatons, while immersing them in a narrative enriched by environmental cues and propaganda messages.
The rumors gained traction following speculation prompted by discussions initiated by Haothors, a leaker who earned some recognition after informing the community about Ghost of Tsushima coming to PC. According to the information circulating, Arrowhead Game Studios had allegedly already been acquired by Sony, with an official announcement imminent. However, Pilestedt's swift response on Twitter clarified the situation, refuting any such acquisition plans involving Helldivers 2 and Arrowhead Game Studios.
In response to the swirling rumors, Johan Pilestedt denied the claims on Twitter, stating, «This is fake… Unless I've missed something.» He further emphasized the inaccuracy of the rumors by dismissing a dated logo associated with the studio's early days, clarifying that the purported acquisition news of the studio responsible for the success of Helldivers 2 was unfounded. Following Johan Pilestedt's clarification, leaker Haothors deleted his Twitter account with no explanation.
Adopting a third-person perspective and leaving behind split-screen co-op, Helldivers 2 changes some things from its predecessor. It features Stratagems, allowing players to deploy various tools during missions, amid features like friendly fire and an armor system mimicking real firearms. Helldivers 2 also features multiplayer functionality catering to up to four players, fostering cross-play between platforms, albeit lacking a single-player campaign.
This is fake… Unless I've missed something.
The potential acquisition of Helldivers 2 wouldn't have been overly surprising, given Sony's track record of strategic acquisitions of notable game studios like Insomniac Games, Bluepoint Games, Housemarque, Firesprite, and more. As Johan Pilestedt's response dispels the rumors surrounding Helldivers 2's acquisition by PlayStation, the

While continues to dominate the video game industry, one star is eager for a crossover with the game his film inspired. It doesn't take a lot to recognize that Arrowhead Studios' game and Paul Verhoeven's cult-classic sci-fi have a great deal in the company especially given that both act as satirical comments on the modern military-industrial complex and the influence of propaganda on society. Despite these heavy themes, there's still a great amount of fun to be had in either given that they also spotlight soldiers firing big weapons at giant alien bugs.
Several players have insisted that they've encountered a new type of flying Terminid but in keeping with the game's satirical tone,Arrowhead Studios' CEO Johan Pilestedt believes it's all nonsense. In the weeks after the game's launch, the community has been hard and working trying to figure out exactly what could be causing the Terminids to spread so rapidly among the stars. Some are speculating that Super Earth itself could be creating the «aliens» but the game's director is trying to throw everyone off the scent.
presents players with an abundance of different tools to eliminate the deadly armies of the Terminids and Automatons and Arrowhead Studios is giving fans some insight into how those Stratagems are created. One of the core components of the popular co-op shooter is the ability to call down equipment and support from the skies, most of which take the form of explosive air strikes or precision missile launches. They're undoubtedly one of the most fun aspects of and director Johan Pilestedt wants everyone to know how the team creates them.
makes a point of throwing droves of enemies at players but those who do their best to avoid combat may be shocked to learn that enemies have a few extra tools in their arsenals to detect sneaky players. During some of the game's larger open-world missions, Helldivers have the option to engage with roving bands of foes or, if they're careful, sneak past without raising the alarm. That's easier said than done, especially when the Terminids can use more than one of their sense to track their prey.
Helldivers 2’s surprisingly huge launch has already seen millions of players across PlayStation 5 and PC dip into its co-op focused third-person action. It’s a smash hit and easily publisher Sony’s biggest ever PC game launch. But while Helldivers 2 is certainly a game everybody should play, it can often be a brutal, unforgiving experience, with floods of hard-to-kill alien robots and bugs descending upon players in increasingly tough waves.
is a game with plenty of strategic possibilities, but there's one key aspect of tactics that has been misrepresented from the start. Some areas where the game can be confusing have to do with bugs present at its launch, like the armor issue that has rendered heavy armor significantly less useful than intended. On the other end, however, some information can be deliberately withheld with the intention of making the game easier to get into rather than harder.
Following its release on February 8, took the world by storm and achieved an unimaginable gaming feat. The sequel to the 2015 game delivered a cooperative experience like none other in the gaming space, encouraging an unprecedented amount of teamwork and collaboration. Although playing solo is an option in, it requires a very specific build and presents a much greater challenge than diving in with other players.
CEO of Arrowhead Games Studios, Johan Pilestedt, has debunked rumors that the developer would be acquired by Sony.
Earlier today, rumours started swirling that PlayStation was moments away from announcing its acquisition of Arrowhead Game Studios, the Swedish team behind the wildly successful Helldivers 2. While the two parties already have a strong relationship – Sony has published both of the Helldivers titles – founder Johan Pilestedt was quick to pour cold water on the reports.
Though some of the weapons in may be considered trash, they may not be as bad as they seem at face value. As the game has increased its player base, the weapons available to Helldivers have been placed into a community hierarchy. Though some guns may be marginally better than others, every weapon has its strengths and is viable for any mission. This flexibility, which transfers to most aspects of, has helped propel the game to success along with its chaotically fun gameplay.
The boss of Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has denied a recent rumour that Sony is buying the studio.
