The game director for Helldivers 2 has confirmed a horrifying detail about Terminids, revealing that the bug-like aliens are able to smell players. As one of two enemy factions in Helldivers 2, Terminids can be difficult to sneak by, and there's now confirmation as to why that is.
In Helldivers 2, players are embroiled in a galactic war, defending Super Earth from the horrors of Terminids and Automatons in an effort to protect democracy. With Automatons being bloodthirsty robots, Terminids are bug-like alien monsters that also happen to be rich in oil reserves when they decompose, making them a valuable resource as well as a dangerous enemy. The recent addition of mechs to Helldivers 2 has made fighting these pesky aliens a little bit more manageable, but they have still proven themselves to be a difficult enemy overall. When it comes to trying to stealth play one's way past Terminids, it can sometimes go very wrong, and the director of Helldivers 2 has confirmed the reason for difficult stealth.
Game director and Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt recently joined streamer OperatorDrewsky during a play session, where it was confirmed that Terminids have a sense of smell that can detect players. The lore of Helldivers 2 is rich with interesting details, and this is just another layer that Arrowhead Game Studios has managed to pull off in order to make the game more challenging.
Although trying to be stealthy in Helldivers 2 is difficult, it's not impossible. Players have to be close to Terminids in order for them to truly get a whiff of nearby players. Pilestedt stated,“They also have an approximation of smell within a close radius. If you’re in proximity of some of the units that are very sensory aware, like the Stalker, they will detect you no matter if they can see you.” So, if players can manage to remain far away enough from these monsters, stealth is possible during missions. Recent updates to Helldivers 2 have been added with the hope of making the gameplay more balanced for players, but the prospect of being sniffed out by a Stalker is still terrifying to think about.

After suffering a recent, but narrow major order defeat, Helldivers 2 players are asking developer Arrowhead Game Studios to implement a way to see supply lines between planets. Part of the appeal of Helldivers 2, outside of the chaotic nature of missions where unplanned events can take place, is the game's living world. As players take on missions, they directly influence the galactic war by liberating planets, or on occassion, losing them to the enemy factions as well. This push and pull aspect keeps the game feeling fresh and dynamic, as the global map is constantly changing as progress is made or lost.

Helldivers 2's Cutting Edge Premium warbond, aka DLC battle pass, is now available to buy in-game, and it is chock-full of oddball gadgetry such as lightning shotguns, burst-fire laser rifles and experimental armour. As with the Arc Thrower stratagem, the lightning shotgun fires arcs of electricity that conduct between players and enemies alike, but there's a fresh armour perk, Electrical Conduit, which reduces arc damage by 95%, allowing close-knit teams of Helldivers to roll around the battlefield frazzling themselves without much penalty.
