GTA 6 publisher CEO thinks videogame prices are "very, very low" for what they offer

Back in early 2020, Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser shockingly announced he was leaving the studio. While we don’t necessarily know how this will affect Rockstar as they haven’t released a new game since then, Houser was unquestionably a huge creative force at the company, writing every Grand Theft Auto title since GTA 2 as well as Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2, Bully, and more.

Rockstar Games will release Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for iOS and Android via Netflix on December 14, the company announced.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is setting out to be one of the most visually impressive games ever made by Rockstar Games, judging from a very early comparison shared online this week.

Red Dead Redemption series writer Michael Unsworth has joined Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser's Absurd Ventures studio as head of story and creative management.

With the amount of hype surrounding Rockstar Games titles, particularly, now is the perfect time for the company to present its own showcase. Other major companies started having their own showcases, such as PlayStation's State of Plays, Nintendo's Nintendo Directs, and the Xbox & Bethesda joint showcases of recent years, the latter of which was used to provide an in-depth look at in June 2023.

GTA 6 preorder date: For nearly a decade, die-hard Grand Theft Auto fans have been awaiting any news about GTA 6, the highly-anticipated GTA 5 sequel. They've been left disappointed, with Rockstar Games placing a complete information blackout. However, that all changed last year when 90 early development videos of GTA 6 surfaced online, showcasing the various gameplay features and mechanics. Since then, a flurry of leaks has surfaced, giving us a glimpse into GTA 6's rumoured Vice City. Just a few weeks ago, Rockstar Games revealed that the GTA 6 trailer will arrive in December, generating a lot of hype among gamers. Now, the alleged GTA 6 preorder date has been leaked online. So, if you've been waiting for the game for over a decade, know when you could preorder it online.

Rockstar Games has been one of the world's most popular gaming companies in the last few decades. A major part of its success is particularly attributed to Grand Theft Auto or GTA, its open-world action-adventure video game. There have been many entries into the series to date, and fans are patiently waiting for the release of the next GTA game which is ubiquitously known as GTA 6. However, apart from the confirmation of the GTA 6 trailer release date, there has been no information so far, with Rockstar Games keeping tight-lipped about the game. And it seems like it doesn't want its employees (or even former workers) to talk about other GTA 6 as well. 

Rockstar has removed the Social Club branding from its website, presumably in anticipation of GTA 6. As per the news account @videotechuk_ on Twitter, the publisher has replaced the nomenclature with simply ‘Rockstar Games' and scrapped any references to ‘Social Club members.' The online gaming service is also missing the old logo now, though players can still engage in multiplayer elements and accrue member-exclusive rewards from games like Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2. For now, it's unclear whether Rockstar would launch a new platform or simply update the existing application to usher in the new era, but traces of the branding still remain in-game.

Remember Rockstar’s Agent? Announced in 2007 for the PlayStation 3, it was touted as a stealth action title set during the Cold War. It would receive sporadic updates before the trademark was eventually abandoned and it was removed from the developer’s website. However, new details are available thanks to former Rockstar North technical director Obbe Vermeij, who worked from 1999 to 2009.

GTA 6 developer Rockstar Games were once working on a zombie survival game set on a Scottish island, which sounds like a mixture of GTA: Vice City and legendary Arma mod DayZ. That's according to former technical director Obbe Vermeij, who joined Rockstar North in 1995 back when it was called DMA Design, and left in 2009 following the release of GTA 4. In the run-up to the GTA 6 trailer reveal this month, he's started blogging about the development of several Rockstar games, from GTA through grotty snuff film simulator Manhunt to cancelled projects such as the zombie title and Cold War stealth fest Agent.

Rockstar Games will officially debut Grand Theft Auto 6’s announcement trailer in early December, and ahead of that long-awaited moment, it seems the company is making some significant changes to its online infrastructure. More specifically, it looks like the long-running Social Club platform is being put to rest.
