Gravity Rush Movie Footage Shown Off at Sony CES 2024 Event, Writing Underway on God of War Series

Excitement for Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming action-RPG Avowed has no doubt ramped up since it was shown off at Developer Direct. Since then, some extended footage has been doing the rounds, with an in-depth discussion about the game from its two directors.

Welcome to CES 2024. This multi-day trade event put on by the Consumer Technology Association is expected to bring some 130,000 attendees and more than 4,000 exhibitors to Las Vegas. The latest advances and gadgets across personal tech, transportation, health care, sustainability and more will be on display, with burgeoning uses of artificial intelligence almost everywhere you look.

CES is renowned for showcasing the latest and greatest display technologies, and the 2024 edition is no different. Samsung and LG always bring something new to ogle, and this year it was transparent screens that wowed us with gorgeous holographic-like images, like something straight out of Star Trek.

NVIDIA's Special Address CES 2024 keynote included an extended look at the enhanced NVIDIA ACE 'Kairos' demo. The demo set in a cyberpunk bar originally premiered at Computex 2023, showcasing the AI conversational capabilities of the Avatar Cloud Engine when applied to non-player characters (NPCs). It was developed in conjunction with Convai, a company founded specifically to make technology that would allow game developers to create NPCS with conversational and multimodal perception capabilities. These characters can integrate seamlessly into the virtual worlds of their games.

Sony seemingly just revealed a Gravity Rush movie is in the works, but it's caused nothing but pain for many long-time fans of the PlayStation series.

Sony has made it abundantly clear that it intends to expand the audience for PlayStation’s biggest properties through TV and film adaptations, and sure enough, plans have accelerated with the likes of The Last of Us, Twisted Metal, and Gran Turismo. Beyond that, several other projects are also confirmed to be in development- including, curiously enough, Gravity Rush, a franchise that was never really among Sony’s biggest, and looks unlikely to get a new game instalment at any point in the foreseeable future.

Not a day after PlayStation UK touted its release in a month, Helldivers 2 may be delayed. This is according to Sony’s CES 2024 press conference, where it listed some of PlayStation’s biggest titles. At roughly 22:53, Arrowhead Game Studios’ third-person shooter has a release date of February 28th instead of February 8th.

A day after Apple announced the sale of its AR/VR headset, the Apple Vision Pro, in the US, Sony has previewed its own headset that competes against Apple's at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024. Unlike other mixed reality headsets, the Sony headset is primarily not meant for consumers but for engineers and developers, much like the Apple Vision Pro. Sony plans to collaborate with developers of a variety of 3D production software, including in the entertainment and industrial design fields.
