It's been almost five years since the release of Gears 5, with only minor development updates and rumors of PlayStation ports to remind people the series is still alive. Given the way the game actually ends, it would have been surprising if we never actually got one, and it appears as though Xbox is getting ready to drop all the secrecy and give us a good look at the future of the Gears of War franchise this summer.
This is according to multiple industry insiders, who chimed in following Jeff Grubb's claim in the most recent Xcast episode that Xbox is planning to "tease" Gears 6 later this year, possibly at some kind of Microsoft event this summer. Of course, when it comes to revealing games, plans are never set in stone, and Grubb himself has said that things could change between now and then, but that a tease "sounds about right".
Grubb sounds pretty sure of himself during that clip, but his claim has been strengthened by several other fairly reputable insiders, including The Verge senior editor Tom Warren. Rather than add any additional details to Grubb's claim, Warren simply says his claim is "correct", with two people now claiming we'll get some new or a small tease for Gears 6 this summer.
Following these claims from both Grubb and Warren, another insider called NateTheHate weighed in with their knowledge of the project via their Reset Era account. In a couple of posts, they explained that they'd be "very surprised" if we didn't get any news about Gears 6 at some point this year, but goes a step further by claiming the title will be a "next-gen moment" for Xbox, which is something the platform has been struggling to deliver.
On top of that, another industry insider - though not as reputable - called Shinobi602 has also suggested that Gears 6 will be a bit of a looker when it eventually releases, claiming that "people aren't ready" for the title in response to people gushing over new screenshots and footage of Hellblade 2.
It's not that surprising that Xbox will be doing its best to make sure Gears 6 is a system seller, with the series up alongside the likes of Halo, Fable, and Forza in terms of its importance to Xbox's exclusive lineup. It sounds like we're getting a small tease at the very least later this year, though hopefully we're not waiting a billion years to see anything of substance like Xbox has done with previous reveals.

Developers at Dead Space remake creators EA Motive were pushing to make a "new entry" in the sci-fi horror series before EA shelved it last year, according to the latest in a recent outbreak of Dead Spacey rumours and revelations that have spread through the bulkheads of the internet, coating everybody's devices with necrotic slime.
Plans for a Dead Space 2 remake have reportedly been shelved after the first game failed to deliver commercially.
The rumored Dead Space 2 remake has been canceled, an established industry insider has claimed. The project has reportedly been shelved over disappointing sales of the first Dead Space remake.
EA has denied reports that a Dead Space 2 remake was in development before being canceled, with a spokesperson telling IGN, "We don't normally comment on rumors but there is no validity to this story."
A reliable gaming insider has claimed that a remake of Dead Space 2 was cancelled (or at least shelved) by EA due to the disappointing sales numbers of the first game's remake.
Despite the original Dead Space getting the remake treatment, the same isn't happening for its sequel, at least not now.
Last year, the Motive Studios remake of the 2008 game Dead Space saw rave reviews for its improvements to the original, smooth sound design, and otherworldly graphics. Despite this, sales were slow, and this has led EA and Motive to shelve work on Dead Space 2.
With Marvel's 'From the Ashes' era of the X-Men on the horizon this summer, the publisher is now getting into the side titles that will populate the rest of the new X-line beyond the three core series, starting with a new take on X-Force from writer Geoffrey Thorne and artist Marcus To.
A new rumor has propped up about the anticipated Gears of War 6.
Microsoft is reportedly planning to unveil new Gears of War and Call of Duty games at its traditional Xbox summer showcase.
As we head deeper into 2024, the traditional “E3” season (of course, E3 is dead now, but you catch my drift) for gaming announcements and showcases is coming up fast. In recent days we’ve begun to hear some murmurings about Microsoft’s big 2024 showcase, with Gears 6 reportedly being there, and now a few more potential details may have filtered out.
